20230527 – Cannington Saturday – W.A. Oaks Final

MISS VALENTINE (Hecton Bale-West On Delly) showed speed from her inside draw and then held off the challengers to win by 1 1/2 lengths over Pop’s Gift in 22.10. The Michael Rylands trained bitch has now won twice from her 6 starts.

WEST ON ODIE (Vanderworp- Times Square) motored around the outside of his rivals from his wide draw before impressively defeating Sunnyside Boy by 1 1/4 lengths in a slick 21.68. The Chris Halse trained dog was having his first try over the 380 metres after 3 recent consecutive wins over the 520 metres including a win in a heat of the Gr 2 WA Derby.

CORPORAL KUNA (My Redeemer-Moonshine Mandy) upset her more fancied rivals including kennel mate and favourite Flashing Kuna by leading throughout over the 600 metres. The Michael Johnston trained dog had only won once from his previous 21 starts over the 600 metres.

ELITE MACHINE (Aussie Infrared-Pat’s Lass) led from box 2 and registered his 19th career win from 34 starts. The Jamie Marsh trained dog won by 5 lengths over Hinto in 29.63. Marsh and owner Daniel Williams are now contemplating a trip to Brisbane for their rich carnival.

20220811 – Cannington Thursday – W.A. Championships

TSAR BELL (Out Of Range- Ringading Sister) was sent out a short priced favourite in the final of the WA Distance Championship and didn’t let his supporters down scoring by 2 1/2 lengths over the early leader Soda Saville in 42.16. The Adam Smithson trained dog settled mid field early before unleashing his powerful finish. The blue brindle dog has now won at his past 5 starts and has recorded 5 wins from 8 starts over the 715 metres in the West.

THROTTLE (West On Augie- West On Hazel) will represent WA in the National Sprint final after defeating Panama Pepper by a neck in the WA Sprint Championship in a new race record time of 29.60, lowering the winning time of Premium Share who went on to win the National Sprint final. The Christine Robartson trained dog has won 10 times from 19 career starts and doesn’t turn two years of age until October. Panama Pepper led from box 4 and Throttle was quickly across to second before coming off the leaders heals on the home corner and scoring an exciting win. Christine Robartson has represented WA twice before in the Sprint with Track Shine in 1986 and Wits End in 1995.

20220806 – Cannington Saturday – W.A. Sprint Championship Heats

RAINING CASH (Kinloch Brae- West On Lola) ran home strongly to claim the leader Traver’s Time and win his Maiden by 3/4 length in 30.30. The Enzo Crudeli trained youngster had been placed at his past 2 starts before the win.

GANGNAM MONELLI (Se Tali Sundance- Camelia Monelli) has really hit his straps winning at 4 of his past 7 starts. The Lewis Clay trained dog raced away from his rivals headed by Moruya Scorpion to win by 6 lengths in a PB 29.82.

SUNSET GIVENCHY (Cosmic Rumble- Sunset Gucci) crossed quickly from box 8 to sit on the leader Low Blow going past the judge the first time. The Eric Campana trained dog then raced to the front and scored an impressive 1 1/2 length win in 35.06 over the 600m.

PANAMA PEPPER (Superior Panama- Starlight Bella) hunted up from box 1 and held out his rivals before racing clear to defeat Hinto in the opening heat of the WA Sprint Championship. The Steve Withers trained star stopped the clock in a PB 29.69. MOMENTUM (Lightning Frank- Belron Bonnie) ran down Vice Grip, who was returning after an absence of 4 months on the sidelines, to score in the second heat in 29.92. The Cosi Dagostino trained chaser took his stake earnings past $200,000 with the win and goes into next Thursday’s WA Sprint Championship final.

20220528 – Cannington Saturday – W.A. Oaks

REFINED (Barcia Bale- Elevated) crossed from box 7 and then was never challenged as the talented young bitch, having just her 4th career start, took out the Greyhounds WA Gr 2 WA Oaks. The Krystal Shinners trained bitch was the quickest qualifier in her heat and then completely dominated the final winning by 7 1/4 lengths over West On Sadie in 29.92.

MAJOR SACRIFICE (Fernando Bale- Tatty Fields) bounced back into the winners list with a 3 1/2 length victory over Jump Into Action in 34.70. The Krystal Shinners trained chaser had been placed at his past two starts over the 520 metres.

EXHILARATE (Fernando Bale- Elevated) gave trainer Krystal Shinners an early winning double with a strong length win over Sunset Whistler in 35.06. The white and brindle dog overcame the tricky box 8 hoodoo and has now won twice from 3 starts over the 600 metres.

STARGAZER (Keybow- She’s Majestic) continues to race with enthusiasm as he recorded his 18th win at start number 110. The Enzo Crudeli trained dog defeated Pilbara by 1 1/2 lengths in 30.09 after having been placed in good company at his prior 3 runs.

20210515 – Cannington Saturday – W.A. Derby Heats

RUBY MONELLI (Fernando Bale- Jingjing) was able to cross from her outside draw and raced clear down the back straight before defeating kennel mate and race favourite Pixie Monelli by 3 1/2 lengths in a PB 29.77. The David Hobby trained bitch has now won 9 times from 24 career starts.

RAPIDO LASS (Brett Lee- Te Amo) led throughout over the 600 metres demolishing her rivals and setting a new Race Record in the process. The Paul Stuart trained bitch defeated Lashes Monelli by 9 1/4 lengths in a sizzling 34.49 at her third try over the distance. Her first was declared a no race and she finished an unlucky third at her next try behind Lilly Lana.

ROSTERED OFF (Aston Dee Bee- Bells Are Ringin) was able to hold up and lead from box 1 and scored a length win over an unlucky Wicked Rhythm in 42.20. The Paul Stuart trained dog has now twice over the 715 metres since arriving from Victoria.

SIR MONTY (Fernando Bale- Star Recall) was able to lead from box 3 and once in front was always going to be tough too pass. The Chris Halse trained chaser returned to the winners list with his last win in a heat of the Gr 1 Perth Cup back in early April. The white and black dog won by 1 1/2 lengths over Redcap Monelli in 29.61.

20200530 – Cannington Saturday – W.A. Oaks Final


COBARGO (Burn One Down- Abby Normal) gave trainer Kody Charles his biggest moment in the sport of greyhound racing winning the Gr 2 Greyhounds WA, WA Oaks in the last stride. The young black bitch who doesn’t turn two years of age until August, jumped well and then charged home to claim the leader Mermaid Monelli on the line to win by a half head in 30.20. The win was extra special for Charles and his wife Brittany who welcomed a new baby girl earlier this year.

WEST ON AXEL (Bella Infrared- West On Babe) led throughout to record his second career victory and ended a losing sequence of 8 in the process. The Chris Halse trained dog clocked a PB 29.99 in defeating Jet A One by 2 1/4 lengths.

ZACK MONELLI (Barcia Bale- Penny Monelli) had to overcome early trouble soon after the start and then weave through traffic before going away to score a convincing win over Steve Monelli in 30.06. The David Hobby trained youngster suffered a fall in the recent Mandurah Derby before finishing fourth in a heat of the Gr 2 Brittons Formal Wear WA Derby two weeks later.

FLAKE MONELLI (Fernando Bale- Dyna Sandy) put her rivals too the sword with a dominant all the way victory over the 715 metres winning by 11 lengths in 41.84. The David Hobby trained bitch has now won 6 times over the distance and took her stake earnings past $100,000 plus breeders and owners WA bred bonuses.

20200523 – Cannington Saturday – W.A. Derby Final & W.A Oaks Heats

CATCH THE THIEF (Aussie Infrared- Dundee Ally) led throughout to win the Group 2 Brittons Formal Wear WA Derby final by 6 lengths over Buster The Brute in a race record 29.32. The Matthew Clark trained Victorian dog clocked a 5.32 first split which put the race to bed before the first corner. The light fawn dog then raced away to record his 11th career win from 18 starts and almost doubled his stake earnings going past $70,000. Buster The Brute has now finished second in the Group 2 WA Derby and third in the Group 1 Perth Cup this year.

THRIFT MONELLI (Barcia Bale- Penny Monelli) claimed her kennel mate and leader Mermaid Monelli going along the back straight before driving away to win the opening heat of the Group 2 WA Oaks. The David Hobby pair were split on the line by Veyron Star with the winner going 30.05.

COBARGO (Burn One Down- Abby Normal) led throughout to take out the second heat of the Group 2 WA Oaks. The Kody Charles trained bitch was having just her 10th career start and she has now won 4 times. The black bitch defeated West On Magada by 1 1/4 lengths in 30.01 with Pixie Monelli back in third place.

20190601 – Cannington Saturday

GRACE ALI (My Bro Fabio- Born Ali) recorded a brilliant win in the Gr 2 final of the Greyhounds WA, WA Oaks coming from behind the leader Kiss Me Linda to win by 3/4 length in 30.03. The Noel Mugavin owned bitch was sent across to Chris Halse to prepare for the rich final and drew ideally in box 2 in the final after being beaten a head by Kiss Me Linda in her heat the week before. Mugavin won the Gr 1 Galaxy final with her mother Born Ali in 2014 and has always had a liking for WA after playing football for the West Perth Football Club during his career. The win was just Grace Ali’s third from 25 career starts.

QUARA’S ZADE (Fernando Bale- Quara Bale) was able to cross from box 6 and although pressurised throughout by Moto Doll, the black dog found plenty in the home straight to win by a half length in 30.04. The James Jeffries trained dog has now won 9 times from 31 starts.

WEST ON AUGIE (Fernando Bale- Te Amo) was able to find the lead from box 5 and showed his true quality with a 5 length win over Slingshot Gypsy in 29.79. The Chris Halse trained star was checked numerous times last week as an odds on favourite and finished out of the placings. He has now won 33 times from 57 career starts.

WEST ON AUGIE (Fernando Bale- Te Amo) led throughout to record his biggest win in his short career in the final of the $60,000 Gr 2 WA Derby. The Chris Halse trained dog jumped on to the arm and raced clear to defeat Eighty Eight by 8 lengths in 29.60. The win took his stake earnings past $132,000 plus the extra WA bonuses for being WA bred. Halse combined with Linda Britton to win their first WA Derby with Reggemite in 1998.

STARLIGHT YOYO (Fernando Bale- Starlight Delly) lifted past the Victorian bitch Slingshot Gypsy on straightening to score a 1 1/4 length win in the first heat of the Gr 2 WA Oaks. The Paul Stuart trained bitch is undefeated in 5 career starts and recorded a PB 29.90 in defeating Corona Monelli with a neck further back in third place Slingshot Gypsy.

POPPY MONELLI (Fabregas- Jackie Bale) started a short priced favourite in the second heat of the WA Oaks and didn’t let her supporters down even though she was headed early by Victorian bitch She’s Gifted. The David Hobby trained black bitch refused to leave the rail and pushed through underneath the leader going off the back straight. She went on to score by 2 1/2 lengths in 29.81 over Cropduster.

PETRIA MONELLI (Fernando Bale- Sharon Monelli) led from box 7 and gave trainer David Hobby his fourth runner through to next weeks Gr2 WA Oaks final worth $60,000. The black bitch led throughout to defeat Queensland trained bitch Brandi Alexander in 30.02.

FERDINAND (Fernando Bale- Velocity Sofia) weaved his way through the field to score a remarkable win in the opening heat of the Group 2 Brittons Formal Wear WA Derby. The Jamie Marsh trained youngster has just turned two years of age and had to overcome checking off heals nearing the home corner before getting through to win in 30.19. The brindle dog defeated Mandurah Derby winner Sieben Monelli by 3/4 length.

WEST ON AUGIE (Fernando Bale- Te Amo) jumped to the front in the second heat of the Group 2 Brittons Formal Wear WA Derby and although pressurised early, was never headed and raced clear to win by 5 lengths over Eighty Eight in 29.76. The Chris Halse trained star will start a short priced favourite in next weeks final.

BLACK BOMBSHELL (Barcia Bale- Tearsabout Tears) showed speed from box 6 and recorded his first win since he won a heat of the Group 1 Sky Racing Perth in April. The Enzo Crudeli trained dog railed beautifully and defeated Decimal by 4 lengths in a PB 29.63. The race favourite Astrozone and Perth Cup winner Trouper Monelli cost themselves a winning chance soon after the start when checking.

DANDALUP GIRL (Shakey Jakey- Rerod Rose) proved her first up win over the 600 metres was no fluke as she led throughout again and clocked a PB 34.79 in defeating Black Fusileer by 5 lengths. The Kody Charles trained bitch showed speed from box 3 and looks a promising type.
