20210417 – Cannington Saturday – Perth Cup & Galaxy

TIGGERLONG TONK (Dyna Double One- Tiggerlong Tonk) lunged right on the line to claim the leader Canya Cruise in the final of the Gr 1 Sky Racing Perth Cup. The Correy Grenfell trained chaser was competing in his 10th Gr 1 final and claimed his first victory in a Gr 1 final winning by a half head in 29.76. The Victorian chaser was well supported into favouritism late and had to overcome a heavy bump soon after the start when Star Book in 2 came out and bumped. The talented chaser though balanced up and chased home strongly to score his 36th victory and take his stake earnings past $550,000. Grenfell won the cup two years earlier with Orson Allen.

ZACK MONELLI (Barcia Bale- Penny Monelli) gave David Hobby his first win in the Gr 1 Sky Racing Galaxy with an all the way win. The black dog jumped well from box 7 and once finding the lead was able to run his rivals off their legs scoring by 4 1/4 lengths over We The People and Sunset Bourbski in a new race record time of 41.54. Zack Monelli 12 months earlier finished second behind Simon Told Helen in the Gr 1 Sky Racing Perth Cup before being sidelined with a hock injury. Hobby has done a marvellous job to get him fit and he has now undefeated in 6 starts over the 715 metres at Cannington.

PROJECTORY (Kinloch Brae- She’s Scandalous) set a new race record in the final of the Gr3 Sky Racing Perth Cup Consolation with a brilliant win by a half length over All Zipped Up in 29.58. The Christine Robartson trained dog was one of the last out of the boxes, however railed brilliantly down the back straight and proved too good for his rivals. The exciting young dog joins an elite list of winners in the race including last year when Tommy Shelby won before going on to bigger and better things. Christine Robartson and her husband Dave won the Perth Cup with High Earner in 2010 and 2011, one as the trainer and both as owners.

RAMBO’S BOY (Kinloch Brae- She’s Historic) charged home to claim the leader Corazon De Leon near the line in the second Consolation of the Sky Racing Perth Cup. The Enzo Crudeli trained dog was having his 50th career start and he recorded his 10th win as he won by a half length in 29.96. Crudeli and owner Robbie Brankstone combined in 2017 with Equanimity to win the Gr 1 Sky Racing Perth Cup.
