“All Zipped Up takes Summer Chase for Kavanagh”

The Summer Chase is a distance event that has been held since 1988 and run over a variety of distances ranging from 600m to 740m. Notable winners are Sandalisa (1995), Fly Guy (2001), Lewie The Legend (2005), Neil Monelli (2018) and Redcap Monelli (2021). Mambo Monelli started a warm favourite in this year’s edition after lowering the track record in his heat. He led all the way from box one and clocked a sizzling 34.20 but faced a tougher assignment tonight given he had to overcome box six in the early stages. All Zipped Up (box 2) and West On Mia (box 7) flew out and All Zipped Up with the inside advantage held the lead. Mambo Monelli made ground rapidly in the middle stages to challenge but was unable to wrestle the lead away from All Zipped Up. All Zipped Up led throughout for Nambeelup trainer Sean Kavanagh and took his career earnings over $125,000 for the Peter Cameron managed Big Boy Brae Syndicate. David Hobby runners Mambo Monelli and Cascade Monelli filled the minor placings respectively.

“Redcap Monelli overcomes box eight to win Summer Chase Final”

Redcap Monelli had been finding plenty of trouble in his races and again drew awkwardly for tonight’s $30,000 Summer Chase Final. The son of Fernando Bale faced a tough assignment from the pink box and was sent out at $8.00 with race favourite Sir Monty ($1.50) expected to lead and win from box three. Sir Monty zoomed to an early lead and at half way Redcap Monelli was fifth on the rail and at least seven lengths from the leader’s nose. He weaved between runners and flashed late to claim a spectacular victory in 34.91, defeating Sir Monty by one length. Outsider Lilly Lana finished third and Renewed was fourth. Redcap Monelli took his earnings over $90,000 for David Hobby and has now won 12 of 43 career starts.

Race 3 Number 2 CINDY’S OLIVER : Flooded home at his first run since August to run a mighty second.

Race 5 Number 5 BLACK QUE : Ran out 600m nicely and looks to be close to a win.

“Kiss Me Linda retires on a high note”

Just prior to straightening Kiss Me Linda held a narrow lead before saluting by half a length in a slick 30.00. More Deductions was the runner up two lengths ahead of the fast finishing West On Olvee. Kiss Me Linda is raced by the Ryan Hill managed From The Jockey’s Mouth Syndicate and ends her career with 19 wins, 34 minor placings and over $150,000 in earnings. INVERSION (Collision- Solar Pak) scored an upset victory in the final of the Greyhounds WA Summer Chase after the race favourite Flake Monelli found a heap of trouble soon after the start. Once the red brindle dog found the lead he was able to draw away from his rivals and defeat kennel mates Dyna Oscar and Werner Bale by 7 lengths in 35.17. The win was the first for trainer Enzo Crudeli in the 600 metre feature final.

MOMENT TO TWELVE (Collision- Midnight Moments) recorded back to back weeks in the same week after scoring a 6 length win over King Ranji in 22.03. The Sarah Appleton trained bitch won on Wednesday before backing up to record her 5th win from 17 career starts. The win also helped the NSW Wildlife Rescue fund with Community TAB donating $500 for every number 1 dog that won on the program.

CINDY’S OLIVER (Fernando Bale- Claretown Cindy) ran home strongly to claim the leader Hostile Guess in the home straight and record a 1 3/4 length win in 30.12. The Joe Dailly trained dog recently arrived across from Victoria and has won at his past 2 starts.

GRACE ALI (My Bro Fabio- Born Ali) was too strong over the concluding stages for kennel mate and leader Kiss Me Linda, going on to score by 1 3/4 lengths in 29.94. The Chris Halse trained bitch has been racing over longer journeys recently and once settling so close to the leader was always going to be hard to beat.

ROCKSTAR PATRIOT (Fernando Bale- Glory Of Love) returned to the track, after an absence of 5 months through injury, with a barnstorming finish to win first up. A brilliant training performance to have the Gr 1 Galaxy winner return to the track in such style by Paul Stuart, the black dog defeated Rappa Flash by a length in 30.17.

The David Hobby trained dog has now won 3 times from 6 starts. The fields were effected once again by the Gastrointestinal illness currently effecting the greyhound population in WA.

DON’T GUESS (Barcia Bale- Te Amo) recorded an 11 length win over Shinboner for returning trainer Christine Robartson. The black dog stopped the clock at 29.91 after having been placed second at his past 3 starts.
