20190309 – Cannington Saturday

Australia’s best stayer Tornado Tears lowered the track record of Petunia Monelli (34.49) when on a wet track he went 34.48 at his first look at the Cannington track. The superstar is being aimed at the Gr 1 Sky Racing Galaxy with the heats next week. Equilibrium also trialed over the 600 metres and clocked 35.08. While Hasten Slowly clocked 29.89 over the 520 metres.

DYNA PATTY (Fernando Bale- Unix Bale) destroyed her rivals at her first look at the Cannington track in the Prelude of the Sky Racing Perth Cup. The Andrea Dailly trained star won the Australian Cup at her previous start. The dark brindle bitch held out West On Augie on the first corner and then raced clear winning by 6 lengths in 29.56. The win also took her stake earnings past $500,000.

MOMENT TO JIVE (Mogambo- Sharon Monelli) led throughout in the Prelude of the Sky Racing Galaxy before scoring by 4 lengths over West On Hawkeye in 42.09. The Sarah Appleton trained bitch will be WA’s leading chance of  trying to match Australian staying star Tornando Tears in the Galaxy series with the heats next Saturday night.

20180421 – Cannington Saturday (Perth Cup & Galaxy)


TROUPER MONELLI (Fernando Bale- Bingle Monelli) gave trainer David Hobby his first ever Gr 1 winner  in scoring an all the way victory in the Sky Racing Perth Cup final. The WA bred and owned chaser jumped well from box 1 and slightly squeezed Striker Light who was expected to lead. He also held out Up Hill Jill in the run to the first corner before racing clear to win by 2 1/4 lengths in 29.86. Hobby combined to win the race with owners Mike and Michelle Quinsee who have supported each other for manu years. He also won his first trainers premiership in 2017. Trouper Monelli took his stake earnings past $238,000 plus will receive extra for being WA bred with its incentives.


RIPPIN’ SAM (Fernando Bale- Tears Siam) scored a brilliant come from behind win in the Gr 1 Sky Racing Galaxy. The Robert Britton trained and Loren Harborne owned dog had to check off heals mid race and gave the leader Moment To Jive many lengths start entering the back straight. With the WA star tiring, the Victorian Rippin’ Sam claimed her in the home straight to win by 3/4 length in 41.70. The $100,000 first prize money doubled her stake earnings and gave trainer Robert Britton his third win in the past 5 years with wins in 2014 with Born Ali and 2015 Space Star.


BENALI (Barcia Bale- Born Ali) ran down the leader Vanderworp to score a 3/4 length win in the Gr 3 consolation of the Sky Racing Perth Cup. The Robert Britton trained dog had been placed in his heat by Up Hill Jill. The black dogs mother won the 2014 Sky Racing Galaxy when trained by Robert Britton.

BENNY MONELLI (Fernando Bale- Bingle Monelli) scored an all the way win in the second of the Consolations for the Sky Racing Perth Cup. The David Hobby trained chaser led from box 4 and was never threatened as he scored by 1 3/4 lengths over Yuup in 29.78.

20180414 – Cannington Saturday

MOMENT TO JIVE (Mogambo- Sharon Monelli) raced into next weeks Gr 1 Sky Racing Galaxy final with a 6 length win over Zipping Katelyn (NSW) in a PB 41.78. For expecting mother and trainer Sarah Appleton, the black bitch has now won 9 in a row as she chases her first Gr 1 victory. RIPPIN’ SAM (Fernando Bale- Tears Siam) was last out of the boxes in his heat and then showed his brilliance as he weaved his way through the field in the second heat. The Robert Britton trained star scored in a slick 41.70, just less than a length out side of Neil Monelli’ track record. The white and brindle dog defeated Jeebus Bird and Myrniong Corner by 9 lengths. QUICK JAGGER (Dyna Nalin- Saving Bundles) returned to his best form with a brilliant 8 length win in the third heat of the Gr 1 Sky Racing Galaxy. The Chris Halse trained chaser found the lead after a lap and raced away to score in 41.72 defeating the NSW star Simon Keeping. Myrniong Corner and Beryllium were the two quickest thirds making it through to next weeks Gr 1 final. The box draw will be conducted on Monday night at Cannington.

COME ON EMMALINE (Fernando Bale- Come On Luann) led from box 2 in the first heat of the Gr 1 Sky Racing Perth Cup. The Victorian based Joe Borg’s black bitch held on to defeat Astrozone and Fernando Express by 3/4 length in 29.82. STRIKER LIGHT (Kc and All- Pretty Fancy) was beaten to the first corner by Slingshot Gypsy before dropping into another gear a long the back straight. The Brett Bravo trained star raced to the lead going off the back and stopped the clock at 29.87, winning by 4 lengths in the second heat of the Perth Cup at his first look at the track. UP HILL JILL (Premier Fantasy- Where’s Demonica) flew into next weeks Gr 1 final, leading throughout to defeat Benali by 4 lengths in 29.60. The recent Easter Egg winner will improve with her first look at the track for trainer David Geall. Up Hill Jill will reacquaint herself with Striker Light in the final, with the two clashing 12 times prior with Up Hill Jill finishing in front of her arch rival 7 of the 12 times. TROUPER MONELLI (Fernando Bale- Bingle Monelli) began well from box 1 and was able to work past the leaders in the back straight before winning the 4th heat of the Perth Cup. The David Hobby trained dog won by 5 lengths over last years winner Equanimity in 29.93.  ALPHA GEOGIOU (Magic Sprite- Queen Of Cyprus) was able to run down the leader Vanderworp, claiming him right on the line to win by a head in 30.11. The Jeffrey Britton trained dog was having his first look at the track and recently won a heat of the Golden Easter Egg in Sydney. WEST ON AUGIE (Fernando Bale- Te Amo) clocked the quickest heat win after leading throughout from box 8. The Chris Halse trained WA bred star stopped the clock at 29.55 in scoring by 9 lengths over Waterloo Monelli in the 6th heat. The red fawn dog has a PB of 29.40 set in the middle of March. HECTON BALE (Fernando Bale- Searle Bale) was too strong for the WA hope Mandjoogoordap down the back straight and went on to win his heat of the Perth Cup by 5 lengths in 29.70. The Andrea Dailly trained dog won the Australian Cup in March and Dailly won the Perth Cup herself asa trainer in 2005 with Sun Hero. BLACK BOMBSHELL (Barcia Bale- Tearsabout Tears) scored a 1 3/4 length win in the final heat of the Gr 1 Sky Racing Perth Cup defeating the leader Max Profit in 29.88. The win kept the dream of trainer Enzo Crudeli’ hope of winning back to back Cups alive after winning with Equanimity last year.

20180407 – Cannington Saturday

WEST ON AUGIE (Fernando Bale- Te Amo) warmed up for the heats of the Gr 1 Sky Racing Perth Cup next Saturday night with a brilliant all the way win over Victorian raider Benali. The Chris Halse trained dog recorded his 13th career win from 19 starts and clocked a first split  of 5.39 as he held out the speedy Benali in the run to the first corner. The red fawn dog won by 1 1/2 lengths as the Victorian wobbled wide around the home corner at his first look at the track.  Pictured : West On Augie

MOMENT TO JIVE (Mogambo- Sharon Monelli) scored her 8th win in a row when she led throughout and held out Quick Jagger over the 715 metres in the first Prelude of the Galaxy. The Sarah Appleton trained bitch is high flying and wouldn’t let the WA star Quick Jagger go past her winning by 2 lengths in 42.16.

BLACK BOMBSHELL (Barcia Bale- Tearsabout Tears) ran down the leader and race favourite Max Profit in the shadows of the post to win the second Prelude of the Perth Cup. The Enzo Crudeli trained dog sat close to the leader throughout before winning by 3/4 length in 29.95. Victorian chaser Fernando Express flew home to grab third at his first look at the track for trainer Robert Britton.

FLED (Collision- Cawbourne Bugsy) recorded a first up win over the 715 metres in the second Prelude of the Galaxy for trainer Steve Withers. The black dog was having just his third start since returning from an injury sustained in late January and should benefit from the run. Fled defeated Winsome April by 2 1/2 lengths in 42.49.

4 Greyhounds trialled in preparation for the Perth Cup and Galaxy series in between races. Crash Bandicoot clocked 29.67, while Winsome Money was slowly away from the boxes and stopped the clock at 30.14 at his first look. Simon Keeping was hand timed to run the 600 metres in 34.70 and Zipping Katelyn 34.89.
