20230304 – Cannington Saturday – Keith Harding Canning Trophy

RILEY KEEPING (Zipping Garth-Danica Keeping) led throughout from his inside draw and remains unbeaten in 3 starts. The Shayne Williams trained youngster defeated Westdale Anarchy by 1 3/4 lengths in 21.95.

TOMMY FUMBLE (Fernando Bale-Deerview Storm) led from box 4 and was able to score a 1 1/4 length win over West On Blossom in 30.10. The Terry Erenshaw trained dog usually shows early speed, however was checked from wide draws at his past two starts where he finished down the track.

CLIFTON CRUZ (My Redeemer-Grace Under Fire) raced into Gr 1 Sky Racing Galaxy calculations with a strong finish to defeat West On Jilliby by a half length in 42.35. The Vince Reid trained dog has now won twice from 8 starts over the 715 metres and was having his first run for a few weeks.

CRUMBLE MONELLI (Barcia Bale- Flake Monelli) crossed easily from box 8 and then scooted away from his rivals to win the Listed Keith Harding Canning Trophy by 9 1/2 lengths in 29.74. The David Hobby trained dog has won 13 of his 16 career starts.

20220319 – Cannington Saturday – Perth Cup and Galaxy Finals

VICE GRIP (Aston Dee Bee- Bells Are Ringin) led throughout from box 5 in the Gr 1 Sky Racing Perth Cup to give 28 year old trainer Adam Smithson his biggest success in the sport. Smithson only went full time training in the past 12 months and when he was asked to train the former Victorian chaser by his syndicate of owners called the Four Frothies syndicate, little did he know the ride he was about to take. Having won the Gr 2 All Stars in November last year, he then won the right to represent the DogsWA in the Phoenix final in Melbourne. Having drawn on the outside of the Australian Cup winner Lala Kiwi, Smithson knew he needed his dog to jump and jump quickly. He clocked a PB 5.40 first split before winning by 7 lengths over Archibald and Rostered Off in another PB 29.42. The two Victorian chasers and favourites had little luck and finished well back.

MAMBO MONELLI (Se Tali Sundance- Camelia Monelli) led throughout to record his first Gr 1 victory in the Sky Racing Galaxy final. The WA star was heavily supported to start a $1.50 favourite against the best stayers in Australia and he didn’t let his supporters down. The Steve Withers trained chaser was having just his third start over the 715 metres and he continued to show his speed running some sensational splits before stopping the clock at 41.59, just outside of the race record set by Zack Monelli last year at 41.54. The black and white dog defeated Mepunga Ruby by 2 1/4 lengths with a further length back to Zipping Virginia.

20220312 – Cannington Saturday – Perth Cup & Galaxy Heats

ZIPPING VIRGINIA (Superior Panama- Zipping Katelyn) railed underneath of the leader Torpedo Tears coming to the home straight before scoring a 3 1/2 length win in the opening heat of the Gr 1 Sky Racing Galaxy. The John Finn trained NSW chaser defeated SA raider Bedrock Fred in a time of 41.76. MAMBO MONELLI (Se Tali Sundance- Camelia Monelli) led as expected and demolished his rivals winning the second heat by 4 1/4 lengths over Pilbara in 41.55. The Steve Withers trained dog clocked a 41.49 at his first look at the distance two weeks prior. MEPUNGA  RUBY (Fernando Bale- Mepunga Rosie) led throughout in the third heat of the Galaxy defeating Hecton’s Boy by 3 1/2 lengths in 41.95. The Jeff Britton trained star was coming off a GR 1 win in the Fanta Bale Super Stayers and although leading was 1 1/2 lengths slower to the first split than Mambo Monelli in the previous heat. KNICKS BALE (Kinda Cruel Red- Dyna Willow) raced into next weeks Gr 1 final with a 1 3/4 length win over Gypsy Wyong who claimed her spot by a mere nose over Danielle Keeping. Samantha Grenfell is hoping to emulate her husband Corey who won last years Gr 1 Sky Racing Perth Cup with Tiggerlong Tonk and two years prior with Orson Allen.

LALA KIWI (Aussie Infrared- Lala Shim) showed why she is the pre post favourite for the Gr 1 Sky Racing Perth Cup with a dominant victory in the opening heat defeating Archibald by 4 1/2 lengths in 29.65. The Andrea Dailly trained star recently won the Australian Cup.    PADDY WANTS PATS (Black Magic Opal- Striker Light) jumped well from box 6 and crossed to lead into the first corner before scoring a 3 1/2 length heat win over Bubbles Away in 29.76. The Kelly Bravo trained dog recently finished second behind Lala Kiwi in the Australian Cup final.VICE GRIP (Aston Dee Bee- Bells Are Ringin) had to get off the canvas twice before scoring a half length win over Granite Song in the 3rd heat of the Perth Cup in a time of 30.01. The Adam Smithson trained dog was turned side ways going into the first corner before having to check off the leaders heals on straightening for home. ROSTERED OFF (Aston Dee Bee- Bells Are Ringin) jumped brilliantly, clocking 5.48 first split, and then raced away from his rival to win the 4th heat over West On Finn in a PB 29.65. The Paul Stuart trained dog has proven his strength with numerous wins over the 600 metres, however had not won over the 520 metres until two weeks ago. SPEED BANDIT (Kinloch Brae- West On Babe) led throughout for trainer Enzo Crudeli defeating Sunset Whistler by 1 1/4 lengths in 29.91. Crudeli is hoping to repeat his feats on 2017 when he won the Perth Cup with Equanimity. MAKURU (Kc And All- Mandjoogoordap) recorded his first ever win in 9 starts at Cannington in the final heat of the Gr 1 Sky Racing Perth Cup. The Eric Campana trained dog cut the field off as he crashed across from box 8 and then scored by 4 1/4 lengths over Rippin’ Tomahawk in 29.95.

20210417 – Cannington Saturday – Perth Cup & Galaxy

TIGGERLONG TONK (Dyna Double One- Tiggerlong Tonk) lunged right on the line to claim the leader Canya Cruise in the final of the Gr 1 Sky Racing Perth Cup. The Correy Grenfell trained chaser was competing in his 10th Gr 1 final and claimed his first victory in a Gr 1 final winning by a half head in 29.76. The Victorian chaser was well supported into favouritism late and had to overcome a heavy bump soon after the start when Star Book in 2 came out and bumped. The talented chaser though balanced up and chased home strongly to score his 36th victory and take his stake earnings past $550,000. Grenfell won the cup two years earlier with Orson Allen.

ZACK MONELLI (Barcia Bale- Penny Monelli) gave David Hobby his first win in the Gr 1 Sky Racing Galaxy with an all the way win. The black dog jumped well from box 7 and once finding the lead was able to run his rivals off their legs scoring by 4 1/4 lengths over We The People and Sunset Bourbski in a new race record time of 41.54. Zack Monelli 12 months earlier finished second behind Simon Told Helen in the Gr 1 Sky Racing Perth Cup before being sidelined with a hock injury. Hobby has done a marvellous job to get him fit and he has now undefeated in 6 starts over the 715 metres at Cannington.

PROJECTORY (Kinloch Brae- She’s Scandalous) set a new race record in the final of the Gr3 Sky Racing Perth Cup Consolation with a brilliant win by a half length over All Zipped Up in 29.58. The Christine Robartson trained dog was one of the last out of the boxes, however railed brilliantly down the back straight and proved too good for his rivals. The exciting young dog joins an elite list of winners in the race including last year when Tommy Shelby won before going on to bigger and better things. Christine Robartson and her husband Dave won the Perth Cup with High Earner in 2010 and 2011, one as the trainer and both as owners.

RAMBO’S BOY (Kinloch Brae- She’s Historic) charged home to claim the leader Corazon De Leon near the line in the second Consolation of the Sky Racing Perth Cup. The Enzo Crudeli trained dog was having his 50th career start and he recorded his 10th win as he won by a half length in 29.96. Crudeli and owner Robbie Brankstone combined in 2017 with Equanimity to win the Gr 1 Sky Racing Perth Cup.

20200314 – Cannington Saturday – Perth Cup & Galaxy Final

SIMON TOLD HELEN (Barcia Bale- Who Told Lindylu) led throughout to record his second Gr 1 victory with a half length win over Zack Monelli in the Sky Racing Perth Cup final. Having won the Gr 1 Silver Chief earlier in the year, the David Burnett trained star overcame a moderate start to wiz past his rivals in a few bounds. The Victorian saluted in 29.82 at his second look at the track in race conditions. He has now won 12 times from 19 starts and over $420,000 in stake earnings. Pictured : Simon Told Helen

ROCKSTAR PATRIOT (Fernando Bale- Glory Of Love) went back to back in the Gr 1 Sky Racing Galaxy final with a brilliant come from behind victory over Cindy’s Oliver and Blue Summer Sky. The Paul Stuart dog won from box 6 last year and again drew the green rug as he won by a length in 41.98. For owners Gemma Jovanovic and James Jeffries, the win took their stayers earnings past $350,000. The black dog has now won 16 times from 78 starts. Stuart also won back to back Galaxy finals in 2012/13 with Miata.

TOMMY SHELBY (Fernando Bale- Serena Fly High) made amends for his narrow defeat in his heat of the Sky Racing Perth Cup by leading throughout in the Gr 3 Consolation. The Steve Withers trained youngster had little work leading into his heat after coming off an injury which saw him scratched from the final of the recent Puppy Classic. The blue dog has now won 8 of 9 starts at Cannington. He defeated Redcap Monelli by a length in 30.02.

BLACK SIGNATURE (Mogambo- Blossom Dior) recorded his first win in WA in the second Consolation of the Sky Racing Perth Cup. The former Victorian had been unplaced in both WA starts, however once working to the front going out of the front straight, he raced clear to win by 5 lengths over Rolo Monelli in a PB 29.90.
