20210220 – Cannington Saturday – Puppy Classic

STOUT MONELLI (Barcia Bale- Corona Monelli) came from behind the leader West On Brae to win in an exciting finish to the final of the Greyhounds WA Puppy Classic. The David Hobby trained youngster won by a head in a new PB 29.60. The win was the black dogs 8th from just 12 career starts. It was also Hobby’s 4th win in the listed classic event having won his first with All The Grooves in 1998.

SUNSET PIPER (Cosmic Rumble- Sunset Gucci) proved too classy for her rivals when after being pressured and then headed by Volute, the young bitch came back to win by 1 3/4 lengths in 30.02. The David Hobby youngster turns two years of age in July and has now won at her past two starts.

POLLY’S ARIANA (Allen Deed- Polly Bale) recorded back to back wins with a 3 3/4 length victory over Rambo’s Boy in 29.84, an equal PB. The Joe Dailly trained bitch has now won 9 times from 51 career starts.

CASUS BELLI (Bella Infrared- Benita Bale) put up a huge effort to race past the inform Barefoot Tycoon along the back straight before racing clear to win by 5 lengths in 41.83. The Jamie Marsh trained dog has recently returned from a serious hock injury and after a confidence boosting win over the 647 metres at Mandurah the previous week, he is back now to near where he was early last year.

20210130 – Cannington Saturday – The Miata

ZACK MONELLI (Barcia Bale- Penny Monelli) recorded a head win over SA chaser Line Seeker in a thrilling finish to the Gr 3 The Miata final. The David Hobby trained star in undefeated in 3 starts now over the 715 metres. The black dog raced past the leader Wicked Rhythm going past the judge the first time and then held off Line Seeker to win by a head in 41.89. Zack Monelli broke a hock last year after finishing second behind Simon Told Helen in the Gr 1 Perth Cup. The win was Hobby’s 5th in the feature staying final.

SUNSET TOXIC (Mepunga Blazer- Sunset Jessie) led throughout in the opening heat of the Sandi’s Me Mum Memorial scoring by 2 1/4 lengths over Sir Monty and Jumbo Jet in a PB 29.57. The David Hobby trained youngster has only just turned two years of age and has now recorded 12 wins and 7 placings from 23 career starts. Hobby has won the race 4 times and also his late wife Suzanne prepared the first ever winner Corn Dolly back in 1999.

FERNANDO STAR (Fernando Bale- Star Recall) worked across from box 6 and bumped with Wise Thunder before he found the lead going into the back straight. The Chris Halse trained dog then raced away to win by 2 3/4 lengths over Wise Thunder who was having his first start in WA from Victoria. The blue dog recorded a winning time of 29.84.

20201219 – Cannington Saturday – Christmas Gift

GRACE ALI ((My Bro Fabio- Born Ali) returned to the winners list with a gutsy win over SA raider Line Seeker in the final of the Greyhounds WA Christmas Gift. The Chris Halse trained bitch has amassed over $230,000 in stake earnings and enjoyed the inside draw in the final where she has finished in the first 3 at 11 of 13 starts. The SA stayer Line  Seeker led early before Grace Ali railed around the home corner before scoring by 3/4 length in 42.19.

COUNTING KUNA (Fernando Bale- Leelicious) recorded his third win in a row after crossing from box 7 and leading throughout winning by 5 lengths over First Rule in 21.80. The Michael Johnston trained sprinter has now recorded 17 wins at Cannington this year and 23 in his career of 37 starts.

ALL ZIPPED UP (Kinloch Brae- Zipping Spring) continued the winning run for trainer Sean Kavanagh after he led throughout and defeated Stargazer by 6 lengths in 29.88. Kavanagh also won the feature Kanyana Cup with Shirakaba the night before at Mandurah.

WICKED RHYTHM (Fernando Bale- Velucci) led from box 7 at her first try over the 715 metres and demolished her rivals winning by 3 1/4 lengths over West On Magada in 42.21. The Enzo Crudeli trained bitch was an impressive winner a few starts prior over the 600 metres and should improve further over the longer distance.

20201114 – Cannington Saturday – Young Stars Classic

SUNSET SPITFIRE (Mepunga Blazer- Sunset Jessie) demolished his rivals in the final of the Greyhounds WA Gr 3 Young Stars Classic leading throughout and defeating litter brother Sunset Toxic by 8 lengths in a Race Record 29.56. The David Hobby star juvenile, who turns two years of age next month, is undefeated in 9 starts including a PB 29.45 on debut in August. The win was Hobby’s second after scoring with Topaz Monelli back in 2005.

STACKS OF KUNA (Fernando Bale- Leelicious) claimed the leader Cascade Monelli right on the line to break his Maiden status after 29 starts. The Michael Johnston trained dog had been placed 14 times prior to his nose victory in a time of 30.82 on a wet track.

ALL ZIPPED UP (Kinloch Brae- Zipping Spring) led throughout from his middle draw and scored a convincing 2 length win over Daisy Devine in 35.43. The Sean Kavanagh trained dog has now won twice and has been placed twice over the 600 metres at his past 4 starts.

NEED MORE KUNA (Fernando Bale- Leelicious) recorded her 6th consecutive win and her first over the 380 metres with an all the way victory scoring by 3 1/2 lengths over Sapphire Rose in 21.97. The Michael Johnston trained bitch had lowered the 16 second time over the 275 metres at her past 4 starts to show her ability.
