20200808 – Cannington Saturday – W.A. Championships

FLAKE MONELLI (Fernando Bale- Dyna Sandy) set a new Race Record when she stopped the clock at 41.54 in the Greyhounds WA Distance Championship final. The David Hobby trained bitch was joined by Hurricane Tears when exiting the boxes, however from then on she led throughout over the 715 metres and scored by 3 lengths over a gallant Cindy’s Oliver. The red brindle bitch has recorded wins at her past 5 starts and has a record of 43 starts for 23 wins and 14 placings and over $156,oo0 in stakes.

TOMMY SHELBY (Fernando Bale- Serena Fly High) returned to WA in flying style with a brilliant victory in the opening heat of the WA Sprint Championship. The Steve Withers trained star levelled up to the leader Pixie Monelli going along the back straight before powering away to win by 2 1/2 lengths in a PB 29.55. The WA star has now won 14 times from just 20 career starts and over $133,000 in stakes.

MERMAID MONELLI (Fernando Bale- Sahannah Monelli) led throughout to win the second heat of the WA Sprint Championship and scored by 2 lengths over Grace Ali and Sir Monty in 29.82. The David Hobby trained bitch showed strength in the run to the line and will have admirers in the final to be run on Thursday at Tabtouch Park Cannington.

WE THE PEOPLE (Peter Rocket- Steffi’s Lara) came with a barnstorming finish to defeat Up And About and Chimera Monelli at her first try over the 600 metres at Cannington. The former NSW bitch is now prepared by Sean Kavanagh and has won twice in WA since arriving and was placed on the other two occasions. The black bitch scored by a length in 34.74.

“Flake Monelli breaks 275m record on her way to another 715m win”

Super stayer Flake Monelli zoomed out of box seven tonight when she led throughout to win by seven lengths in a flying 41.55.

The daughter of Fernando Bale clocked a sizzling 15.68 for the first 275m which is a length inside of the current track record held by Counting Kuna (15.73).

Flake Monelli has now broken that time on four occasions.

The in-form Cindy’s Oliver soldiered on well for second place and finished five lengths ahead of the third placed So Tough.

Flake Monelli has now won four in a row and a total of 22 races from 42 career starts.

Her career prize money now sits at $136,000.

HOUNDS TO FOLLOW :

Race 2 Number 7 JUMP IN LINE : Won at $37 from a wide draw and looked suited to the 380m journey.

Race 5 Number 6 TRY CATCH TANYA : Showed early zip before striking bother in the middle stages but then rattled home at the end. Potential stayer.

20200620 – Cannington Saturday – Paradise Street Trophy Heats

BANJO’S GIRL (Banjo Boy- Beyond Resolve) was impressive in wining the first heat of the Fuller Fitness Paradise Street Trophy with an all the way win in Race record time of 34.67, lowering West On Augie’s run in 2018 of 34.70. The Michael Johnston trained bitch had been placed twice from 3 previous starts over the 600 metres. The black bitch defeated the race favourite Chimera Monelli by 8 lengths.

CINDY’S OLIVER (Fernando Bale- Claretown Cindy) led throughout in his heat of the Paradise Street Trophy going within 0.02 of Flake Monelli’s track record. The Joe Dailly trained dog was having just his third start over the distance and once landing on the arm was able to run some slick sectionals stopping the clock at 34.34 which was 6 lengths ahead of Inversion and Flake Monelli.

 

EINSTEINIUM (Knocka Norris- Lonesome Jett) led throughout at his first race start at Cannington holding on to win by 3/4 length over Heaps Of Kuna in a slick 21.70. The Terry Erenshaw trained youngster has now won 4 times from just 5 career starts finishing second on the other occasion after finding early trouble.

SO TOUGH (Fernando Bale- Cosmic Aphrodite) recorded his first win in WA for new trainer Shayne Williams with a 2 3/4 length victory over West On Violet in 42.57. The white and brindle dog had won 5 times in Victoria prior to coming West where he had been placed at 3 of his first 4 starts here.

20200606 – Cannington Saturday – Winter Cup Heats

CATCH THE THIEF (Aussie Infrared- Dundee Ally) set a new race record as he easily accounted for a class field in the opening heat of the Fuller Fitness Winter Cup. After winning the Gr 2 Brittons Formal Wear WA Derby, trainer Matthew Clark decided to leave his star in WA with Krystal and Steve Shinners for this series. Up against the track record holder Campini and Perth Cup place getter Buster The Brute, the Victorian chaser bounced to the top and went clear down the back straight. The light fawn dog defeated Joker Poker by 7 1/2 lengths in 29.56 and will now start a short priced favourite in next weeks final.

TOMMY SHELBY (Fernando Bale- Serena Fly High) had to overcome numerous bumps in his endeavours to find the fence, however the tough Casuarina flyer didn’t let any dog stand in his way and he held on to win the second heat of the listed Winter Cup by a head over Cindy’s Oliver in 30.03. The Steve Withers trained youngster has now won 12 of 15 career starts and gets another opportunity at trying to topple the Victorian star Catch The Thief in next weeks final.

ZACK MONELLI (Barcia Bale- Penny Monelli) impressed on debut over the 600 metres defeating kennel mates Redcap Monelli and Snickers Monelli. The David Hobby trained star, who finished second behind Simon Told Helen in the Gr 1 Sky Racing Perth Cup earlier in the year, settled close to the leader Redcap Monelli and after peeling off his heels went on to win by a half length in 34.63.

20200523 – Cannington Saturday – W.A. Derby Final & W.A Oaks Heats

CATCH THE THIEF (Aussie Infrared- Dundee Ally) led throughout to win the Group 2 Brittons Formal Wear WA Derby final by 6 lengths over Buster The Brute in a race record 29.32. The Matthew Clark trained Victorian dog clocked a 5.32 first split which put the race to bed before the first corner. The light fawn dog then raced away to record his 11th career win from 18 starts and almost doubled his stake earnings going past $70,000. Buster The Brute has now finished second in the Group 2 WA Derby and third in the Group 1 Perth Cup this year.

THRIFT MONELLI (Barcia Bale- Penny Monelli) claimed her kennel mate and leader Mermaid Monelli going along the back straight before driving away to win the opening heat of the Group 2 WA Oaks. The David Hobby pair were split on the line by Veyron Star with the winner going 30.05.

COBARGO (Burn One Down- Abby Normal) led throughout to take out the second heat of the Group 2 WA Oaks. The Kody Charles trained bitch was having just her 10th career start and she has now won 4 times. The black bitch defeated West On Magada by 1 1/4 lengths in 30.01 with Pixie Monelli back in third place.
