20240316 – Perth Cup and Galaxy Finals



Weight Variations
WEST ON BOONIE (Tommy Shelby-West On Violet) took out the Gr1 Sky Racing Galaxy winning by a half length over Jelly Monelli in 42.14. The Chris Halse trained young Star was having just his second start over the 715 metres and was last out before making his way to the lead with his mid race speed. The win gave his sire Tommy Shelby a winning Gr1 double.

GO SEEK KOTONI (Mepunga Blazer-Go Seek Heidi) showed speed from box 6 and led throughout in the Gr3 Consolation of the Perth Cup. The Damien Crudeli trained dog equaled his PB of 29.81 when he defeated Agent Eleven by 2 1/2 lengths.

MAXIMUM KUNA (Dyna Villa-Gran Amor) led throughout in the second of the Perth Cup consolations defeating Mustang Timmy by a neck in 29.75 a new PB. The Michael Johnston trained dog dominated from the front and has now won 8 of 24 career starts.

HARLEY MONELLI and CARTER AXELROD could not be separated by the judges after the two had run over the 600 metres. For young trainers Hayley Atkins and Jay Jacobson, for them to go home sharing the spoils was something for them both to celebrate. The two stopped the clock at 34.76.

UNCLE TOMMY (Tommy Shelby-West On Poppy) caused an upset win in the Gr 1 final of the Sky Racing Perth Cup as he missed the interference from his wide draw and defeated the Victorian Mepunga Shine by a length in a PB 29.81. The win was the biggest win on WA soil for trainer Steve Withers who prepared and travelled with the red brindle dogs father Tommy Shelby winning 3 Gr1’s on the East Coast.

20191116 – Cannington Saturday – Young Stars Classic

DANICA KEEPING (Barcia Bale- Becky Keeping) gave trainer Shayne Williams his biggest win as a trainer leading throughout in the Gr 3 final of the Greyhounds WA Young Stars. The blue bitch was able to cross from box 8 and with bumping behind her, she set up a winning break down the back straight. The Shayne Train was shocked after his young bitch recorded her biggest win and in a PB winning time of 30.15. She defeated Paw Pilot by 2 1/2 lengths with Pure Bling back in third place.

IMA LOGGER (Premier Fantasy- Peggie) recorded just his second win at Cannington in 34 tries at the track with an all the victory over Pagan Dancer. The Michael Johnston trained dog scored by 3/4 length in a PB 30.09 and paid over $25 on tote.

QUARA’S ZADE (Fernando Bale- Quara Bale) led throughout from box 2 and scored a 2 1/2 length win over Freddo Monelli in a PB 29.89. After fending off the early bumps on the first corner, the James Jeffries trained dog recorded his 13th career win from 49 starts.

DYNA OSCAR (Fernando Bale- Unix Bale) missed the trouble going off the back straight when putting pressure on the leaders and shot away for a comfortable 7 length win over Eighty Eight in 30.03. The Enzo Crudeli trained dog has been in very good form winning 3 of his past 5 starts over both the 520m and 600m.

20191109 – Cannington Saturday – Young Stars Classic Heats

CHOMP MONELLI (Fernando Bale- Dyna Sandy) railed perfectly down the backs straight to find the lead from kennel mate Royce Monelli before driving away to win by 3 1/2 lengths in a PB 30.02. The David Hobby trained dog goes into the Gr 3 Final of the Young Stars after his heat win and hopes to join Topaz Monelli as Hobby’s other winner in the series.

SUNSET KODIAK (Barcia Bale- Minnesota Nice) showed brilliant speed from her outside draw to lead and then hold out her kennel mates Rolo Monelli and Flake Monelli by a nose in 30.15. The win in the second heat of the Gr 3 Young Stars gives trainer David Hobby 5 of the 8 runners in the final next week.

GRACE ALI (My Bro Fabio- Born Ali) enjoyed the rise in distance as she returned to the winners list with a 1 1/2 length win over Snallygaster in a PB 34.74. The Chris Halse trained bitch has now won 3 times from 6 tries over the 600 metres. The win comes after recent success in a heat of the Gr 2 All Stars Sprint before finishing last behind Alicante Bouchet in the final.

JADE’S BLADE (Kinloch Brae- Bluey’s Fate) led throughout from box 2 to record back to back wins in FFA company. The Joe Dailly trained bitch defeated Two Times Twice by 3/4 length in 29.95. The black bitch won the Puppy Classic earlier in the year as well as the Peter Thomas and Canning Trophy finals.

The Group 3 ‘Miata’ – Sarah Appleton Interview


After winning 17 races and more than $150,000 in stakemoney last year Moment To Jive has started 2019 in similarly brilliant fashion with three victories in a row.

The Sarah Appleton-trained chaser enters this Saturday night’s Group 3 ‘The Miata’ as the greyhound to beat.

We caught up with Sarah ahead of the race.
