20220305 – Cannington Saturday – Keith Harding Canning Trophy

“Tiger Town takes out Keith Harding Trophy for Shayne Williams”

Strong sprinter Tiger Town began well from box six before reeling in leader Makuru to take out tonight’s feature event the Keith Harding Canning Trophy. Nambeelup based trainer Shayne Williams made it back to back victories in the race after Rippin’ Memphis won last year in 29.77. Tonight’s winning time of 29.86 was solid and the win took Tiger Town’s career earnings over $66,000. He was always going to be strong at the finish given his ability over 600m and Makuru isn’t known for his strength at the end of 520m. The margin was one length and a further five lengths away in third was Super Zoom Jake.

HOUNDS TO FOLLOW :

Race 1 Number 6 BUBBLES AWAY : Rocketed out of the boxes and clocked 5.47 to the first turn before winning in 29.87.

Race 3 Number 8 DANIELLE KEEPING : Timed her run beautifully and scored over 715m after being last at the first turn.

20220219 – Cannington Saturday – Puppy Classic

COMET BAY KATIE (Fernando Bale- Paganoni) led throughout to record her first win for new trainer James Jeffries. The black bitch had won twice from 5 starts before changing ownership. After landing on the arm, she raced away to win by 2 1/4 lengths over Roisin Monelli in 21.96.

MY BOY BAILEY (Fernando Bale- Feelin’ Alright) led from box 7 and caused an upset win when he held out Wooden Hands by a head in 30.35. The Enzo Crudeli trained dog has now won twice from 3 career starts and bounced back to winning form after having no luck in his heat of the Puppy Classic the week before.

WEST ON MAGADA (Bella Infrared- West On Babe) recorded her second win in 28 tries over the 715 metres when she ran down West On Mia to win by a neck in 42.43. The win continued the outstanding run for trainer Damien Crudeli who prepared 5 winners the previous night at Mandurah.

VICE GRIP (Aston Dee Bee- Bells Are Ringin) led throughout and held off Serong by a neck in 29.72 in his return too racing. The Adam Smithson trained chaser hadn’t started since finishing unplaced in the rich Phoenix final in Melbourne in December. The black dog is being set for the Gr 1 Sky Racing Perth Cup in March.

20220205 – Cannington Saturday – Sandi’s Me Mum Memorial

RILEY HAS IT (Kinda Cruel Red- Mia Brae) led from box 3 and held off all of the challengers as she scored a 1 1/2 length win over Oysters in 22.23. The Kody Charles trained bitch won 4 starts back in 22.05 from a similar draw and then was placed last start behind the inform Wise Dohne.

JIMMY ROCKS (Bit Chilli- Amy Monelli) crossed from box 8 and led throughout defeating the odds on favourite West On Finn by 3 lengths in 30.03. The Justin Wood trained dog has now won at his past two starts and 3 of 8 in his short career.

TORZA (Fernando Bale- Little Charlie) recorded just her second win at Cannington from 16 starts after she held out the favourite Granite Song going into the first corner. The Lewis Clay trained bitch then extended and recorded a winning margin of 5 3/4 lengths in 29.89.

MARLOU MISS (Lochinvar Marlow- Jazzy Lou) held out Bones McCoy going along the back straight and then drew away in the straight to win by 2 1/4 lengths in 21.96. The win gave trainer Justin Wood an early winning double.

20220122 – Cannington Saturday – Summer Maiden Classic

SAPPHIRE ROSE (Fernando Bale- Flying Sienna) continued her excellent record from box 1 when she kicked up underneath Oysters to hold the lead. The Kody Charles trained bitch then raced clear to win by 6 lengths over Global Bliss in 21.88. The win was her 23rd career victory from 71 starts.

MICK FLASH (Worm Burner- Real Flash) wasn’t the quickest away from his box 8, however quickly mustered underneath of dogs going into the first corner. The James Jeffries trained dog then raced clear into the back straight going on to win by 5 lengths over Special Gunn in 29.99.

WISE THUNDER (Fernando Bale- Cosmic Wise) ran down the leader West On Cider to score by a head on the line in 29.83. The Michael Hine trained chaser had been racing behind the likes of Vice Grip and West On Brae in recent starts and enjoyed settling in the clear in second position a long the back straight. The white and black dog charged home along the fence to score.

WEST ON FINN (My Redeemer- Te Amo) was slowly away from the boxes before railing through and leading into the back straight. The Chris Halse trained youngster remained undefeated racing clear to win the Summer Maiden Classic Final by 3 lengths over Fearghal Monelli in 29.89.

20220114 – Mandurah Friday – Birthday Cup

“Glen Currie wins Birthday Cup with Bones McCoy”

The Birthday Cup is a time honoured race that was first run back in 1979 when Newburn Lad won over the old 530m distance. Some big name winners have been Icy Monaro (1982), Fire Rock (1995), Zalock (2003), Back Tonight (2007 and 2008), Astrophysic (2016) and Miss Bamsy (2018). A rich field was assembled for tonight’s $60,000 Group Two Final and Bones McCoy and Destruction shared favouritism. The pair began beautifully and matched strides into the first turn with Bones McCoy using his inside advantage to hold the lead. The son of Aston Dee Bee motored away from his rivals in the middle stages and whilst Sunset Piper took ground off him late he scored by half a length. The former NSW chaser boasts a nice PB of 29.62 around Wentworth Park and was always going to be hard to beat once he led over 405m. He is prepared by comeback trainer Glen Currie who has been back training greyhounds for a couple of years out of Wundowie, a town in the Darling Range 67km north east of Perth. Currie trained plenty of winners in the 1990s in both NSW and WA and was proud as punch with his Group Two triumph tonight.

HOUNDS TO FOLLOW :

Race 2 Number 3 NED KEEPING : Led throughout first up in the state and will benefit from the run.

Race 3 Number 5 POPPY PASSION : Landed in front and kept going, winning over 647m by more than a length.
