20210115 – Mandurah Friday – Dawesville Cup Heats

“Sole Trader causes upset result for Adam Smithson”

Former Victorian Sole Trader produced a surprise jump in tonight’s first heat of the Dawesville Cup when he speared out of box three and out-sped a zippy lineup to find the front. The son of American sire SH Avatar was winless after four Cannington starts since arriving from Victoria. However once the strong finisher found the lead he was always going to be extremely hard to overtake. Race favourites Sunset Kodiak, Wise El Nino and Aston Thunder all met with mid race interference and Sole Trader powered away to win by four lengths in 27.63. Outsider Production worked home stylishly from box eight to be the runner up for Kody Charles in advance of Aston Thunder who finished third. Sole Trader is raced by Shane Loftus and trained by Adam Smithson and has now won 8 of 36 career starts.

20190322 – Mandurah Friday – Dawesville Cup

“Dance Away breaks through for overdue victory”

Trained out of North Yunderup by Peter Sutherland Dance Away improved sharply tonight to win over the 405m distance. The 25kg white and black daughter of Cosmic Rumble showed a lot of ability early in her career and won 9 of her first 30 career starts. However since running third early last August she failed to finish closer than sixth at 9 subsequent runs when slowly away. Tonight she drew box one and after a fast getaway led throughout in a smart 23.05 over the Chris Halse trained Jerky Boy and the Neville Smith prepared Patchy Kat. Punters didn’t see the improved performance coming and despite drawing the favourable box one was sent out at odds of $26.10 with the WA TAB. Sutherland has trained many Mandurah specialists in the past like Miss Collash, Coolabar Babe, Romulus, Fawn Arkie and Stack The Doe. The feature race was won by Westdale Bandit (pictured) for Andrew McLaren who recorded a sizzling 27.57 over 490m to claim the time honoured Dawesville Cup.

HOUNDS TO FOLLOW :

Race 5 Number 4 SPITTING VENOM : Ran on gamely to be the runner up in the Dawesville Cup.

Race 6 Number 5 BONTEM DELLY : Caught the eye to finish just behind the placegetters and will drop in grade next start.

“Uranium wins Dawesville Cup for Terry Erenshaw”

Canning Vale trainer Terry Erenshaw claimed this year’s Dawesville Cup with Uranium who capitalised on drawing box one. The son of Zulu Zeus won his heat in 28.01 after being squeezed early and settling sixth at the first turn. His time was clearly the slowest of the four heats and despite jumping from the favourable red box started at $18 with the WA TAB. He stormed out of the boxes and landed two lengths in front over favourites Little Grove and King Cigar. At around half way Uranium was three lengths in front of his nearest rivals who crashed into each other and lost all momentum. This ‘interference bubble’ left him ten lengths clear and all he had to do was aim straight to take out the feature event. Outsider Black Light ran on strongly for Ricky Valenti to claim second and was beaten seven lengths. Subscribe finished third for Ben MacLean after missing the start badly from the corner start. Uranium recorded a swift 27.66, has now won 10 of 63 career starts and tonight’s victory took him to over $28,000 in earnings. In other news Mandurah stalwart South had his swan song tonight and will now be retired to a couch in Baldivis. He ended his career with 96 starts which resulted in 21 wins and 26 placings for Barragup trainer Ricky Valenti.

HOUNDS TO FOLLOW :

Race 1 Number 5 DUSTY MAC : Broke his maiden status tonight over 405m at start 19, sizzling around in 22.54.

Race 7 Number 4 MENDOZA MONELLI : Hit the line hard for third and has his paw on the till.
