“Rippin’ Grace advances to Miata Final”

Strong youngster Rippin’ Grace caused an upset in tonight’s first heat of The Miata over 715m. The daughter of Bernardo began poorly before scooting through on the inside to take up second position with 200m to go. Favourite Bedrock Fred had found the front but turning for home was challenged strongly by Rippin’ Grace. She leveled up in the shadows of the post before scoring by the smallest possible margin in 42.05. At just two years and two months of age and with a career record of 27 starts for 7 wins and 14 minor placings she looks set to earn plenty of stake money over a range of distances. She is owned by Cheryl Smith and will be very hard to hold out next week. The box draw for the Miata Final :

HINTO (Zipping Garth- ReKall Kelsos) looked impressive as he raced clear going out of the back straight and to a 7 1/2 length Maiden victory over Winnie Woo Woo in 29.99. The Christine Robartson trained youngster had finished second at his only two race starts prior to his demolishing.

BLAZIN’ LASS (Worm Burner- Bells Are Ringin) crossed from box 8 and recorded her second win in the week with a come from behind 3/4 length victory over West On Bronte in 30.22. The win came an hour after trainer Adam Smithson had won with Perth Cup winner Vice Grip in a qualifying heat of the Million Dollar Chase in Sydney at Wentworth Park.

GRANITE SONG (Aston Dee Bee- Juniper Twedo) was able to hold the lead from box 3 and although challenged by Rippin’ Tomahawk, the black dog was able to dig deep and score by a length in 29.96. The John Carmody trained dog ended a losing sequence of 7 and recorded his 8th win from 29 starts.

20211218 – Cannington Saturday – Christmas Gift

BIONIC POLLY (Hecton Bale- Bionic Black Ant) showed speed from her inside draw and with trouble behind her was able to race away and record a 6 length Maiden victory. The Enzo Crudeli trained bitch had been placed twice from 5 previous starts. The black bitch defeated Tiger Dash in 30.47.

HECTON’S BOY (Hecton Bale- Dubliner) led from box 4 and held out his rivals going into the first corner before racing clear to defeat Lacrymosa by 6 lengths in 30.19. The black dog gave trainer Enzo Crudeli an early race to race double.

RIPPIN’ WILLY (Fernando Bale- Rippin Rose) was able to hold the lead going into the first corner and then was never headed scoring a 1 1/2 length win over West On Radar in 30.11. The Shayne Williams trained dog had been racing consistently, however the win was just his second from 21 tries over the 520 metres.

MAMBO MONELLI (Se Tali Sundance- Camelia Monelli) led throughout in the Free For All defeating Stargazer by 6 lengths in a slick 29.63. The David Hobby trained chaser has now won at his past 3 starts including his last start Anniversary Cup win over VALACHI.

20210130 – Cannington Saturday – The Miata

ZACK MONELLI (Barcia Bale- Penny Monelli) recorded a head win over SA chaser Line Seeker in a thrilling finish to the Gr 3 The Miata final. The David Hobby trained star in undefeated in 3 starts now over the 715 metres. The black dog raced past the leader Wicked Rhythm going past the judge the first time and then held off Line Seeker to win by a head in 41.89. Zack Monelli broke a hock last year after finishing second behind Simon Told Helen in the Gr 1 Perth Cup. The win was Hobby’s 5th in the feature staying final.

SUNSET TOXIC (Mepunga Blazer- Sunset Jessie) led throughout in the opening heat of the Sandi’s Me Mum Memorial scoring by 2 1/4 lengths over Sir Monty and Jumbo Jet in a PB 29.57. The David Hobby trained youngster has only just turned two years of age and has now recorded 12 wins and 7 placings from 23 career starts. Hobby has won the race 4 times and also his late wife Suzanne prepared the first ever winner Corn Dolly back in 1999.

FERNANDO STAR (Fernando Bale- Star Recall) worked across from box 6 and bumped with Wise Thunder before he found the lead going into the back straight. The Chris Halse trained dog then raced away to win by 2 3/4 lengths over Wise Thunder who was having his first start in WA from Victoria. The blue dog recorded a winning time of 29.84.

20200201 – Cannington Saturday – The Miata Final

GRACE ALI (My Bro Fabio- Born Ali) caused an upset win by winning the Gr 3 final of the Miata. The Chris Halse trained bitch ran home from midfield down the back straight and claimed the leader Inversion in the home straight to win by 3/4 length with Zipping Galon back in third place. Grace Ali won last years Gr 2 WA Oaks and has only recently stepped up to the longer journeys. Race favourite Tornado Tears found an immense amount of trouble and finished unplaced behind Flake Monelli who filled the  fourth position.

TOMMY SHELBY (Fernando Bale- Serena Fly High) led from box 2 clocking 5.48 first split before putting paid to his rivals with a 6 length win over Venus And Mars and Eighty Eight in the opening heat of the Sandi’s Me Mum memorial. Last years winner of the series West On Augie was unplaced after finding trouble. Tommy Shelby is undefeated in 5 starts at Cannington and stopped the clock at 29.94.

STARLIGHT YOYO (Fernando Bale- Starlight Delly) led from box 1 and although pressured early by Kiss Me Linda, the black bitch was able to drive away to win by 5 lengths in 29.87. The Paul Stuart trained bitch has now won 4 times from 7 starts from the inside draw and has won 25 times from 48 career starts.

ZACK MONELLI (Barcia Bale- Penny Monelli) demolished his rivals with a brilliant all the victory from box 4. The David Hobby trained dog clocked 5.50 early spli before racing clear of his rivals to win by 17 lengths in a PB 29.47. The black dog has now won 6 times from 10 career starts.

20191221 – Cannington Saturday – Christmas Gift

“Another Feature Win for Reidy’s Runner and Christine Bennett”
The Christmas Gift is a feature event that was first run back in 1975 when Heather Diro won for Dennis Calleja. Other notable winners include Blue Echo (1984), Sand Pebble (1989), Gemarly Park (1996), Jennev (2002), Miata (2012) and Ramifications (2016). Tonight’s edition was collectively worth $30,000 in prize money and a fantastic field was assembled to race over 715m. Reidy’s Runner was sent out a $2.00 favourite despite drawing box five but boasted a fine record over 715m and also won the National Distance title over the same distance earlier in the year. Gran Amor and Grace Ali jousted for the lead in the early stages and Reidy’s Runner settled in a lovely position just off the pace in third position. With 200m to go Reidy’s Runner surged around the pair before dashing clear to win by four lengths. Gran Amor was the runner up a length in front of Grace Ali and close up in fourth was promising stayer Who’s Got Spice. Reidy’s Runner has now won 23 of 61 career starts, over $262,000 in stake money and also took the lead over West On Augie and Premium Share in the 2019 Cannington Trackstar Award.

MOMENT TO JIVE (Mogambo- Sharon Monelli) recorded a dominant all the way victory in the final of the Gr 3 The Miata defeating litter sister Moment To Rumba by 4 lengths in a great training performance by Sarah Appleton. The black bitch who turns four years of age in April has won her past 4 starts and is chasing in career best form. The win took her record to 88 starts, 32 wins and 24 placings and over $265,000 in stakes plus breeders bonuses for being WA bred.

ROCKSTAR PATRIOT (Fernando Bale- Glory Of Love) recorded his first win in WA when coming off the heals of the leader Dyna Orenthal on straightening for home. The former eastern states chaser was transferred to the kennels of Paul Stuart after an unplaced run in late December. The black dog won by half a length in 35.05.

WISE PIQUET (Djay’s Octane- Serena To Excel) caused an upset win in the opening heat of the Sandi’s Me Mum Memorial for new trainer Chris Halse. The former Victorian trained chaser found plenty of room from his inside draw and then raced past the leader All The Rave coming towards the home corner. The white and black dog defeated Eighty Eight by half a length in 30.11.

WEST ON AUGIE (Fernando Bale- Te Amo) charged into next weeks final of the Sandi’s Me Mum with a brilliant 4 length victory over Starlight Yoyo in 29.60. The Chris Halse trained dog is flying with wins at his past 3 starts and has now won 27 times from 48 career starts.

20190126 – Cannington Saturday

WEST ON AUGIE (Fernando Bale- Te Amo) dominated a top line FFA field as he worked to the lead into the first corner and then raced clear to win by 9 1/4 lengths over Leisel Monelli in 29.75.  The Chris Halse trained star recently returned from injury and warmed up for his win with a 27.25 victory at Mandurah the week before. REIDY’S RUNNER (Dyna Double One- Buxton Miss) settled last in the 6 dog opening heat of the Gr3 Miata before running home to win by 1 1/2 lengths over West On Hawkeye and the tiring favourite Yunderup Tank. The Christine Bennett trained dog has now won 4 times over the 715 metres from 7 attempts. Yunderup Tank led from the start before getting tired over the last 50 metres.

MOMENT TO JIVE (Mogambo- Sharon Monelli) led throughout as a short priced favourite in the second heat of the Gr3 Miata. The Sarah Appleton trained bitch has won her past 3 starts and stopped the clock at 42.09, 2 3/4 lengths ahead of Poppy Monelli and West On Tia. The black bitch finished 6th in last years Miata final behind Neil Monelli who set a track record winning time of 41.66.
