20200125 – Cannington Saturday – The Miata Heats

“Miata Final promises to be a ripper”
Two heats of the Miata were held tonight over 715m with the first four from each event progressing to next Saturday’s final. The first heat featured track record holder and earner of $870,000 Tornado Tears, who was sent out $1.30. The champ settled second at the first turn, tracking promising youngster Flake Monelli with Barcali and Abstract Miss lobbing third and fourth respectively. Tornado Tears (pictured) overhauled Flake Monelli in the shadows of the post and posted 41.78, a moderate time by his standards and well outside of his record of 41.25. Flake Monelli was beaten a length and two lengths away third was the strong finishing Barcali. Heat Two loomed as a showdown between SA visitor Zipping Galon and reigning National Distance winner Reidy’s Runner. Zipping Galon struck early interference and Reidy’s Runner suffered a minor injury in transit, allowing rank outsider Inversion to lead throughout. The box draw for the Miata Final :
