“Williams wins Kanyana Cup with Nangar Jill”

The Kanyana Cup is a Provincial Class Series over 490m for up and coming Grade 5 chasers. Notable victors in the past include Tawa Boy (1994), Clown Act (1996), Barelen Wish (2001), Chuck Monelli (2010), Crashing Packs (2015) and Stratosphere (2017). A terrific field of chasers were assembled for tonight’s $9,025 final over the 490m distance with West On Hazel (box 1) and Love me Tinder (box 6) sent out as favourites. However as the boxes opened Nangar Jill from box four literally exploded to an uncontested lead. The daughter of Where’s Pedro made every post a winner, recording a slick 27.77 and chalking up her ninth career win and her first at Mandurah. The Paul Stuart trained Love Me Tinder soldiered on strongly to be beaten two lengths and a head away third was Garbrandt who ran on well after settling well back. Nangar Jill is prepared by Treeby based trainer Shayne Williams and after 33 lifetime starts now has 9 wins, 15 minor placings and over $58,000 in the bank.

Race 2 Number 4 REBEL CAUSE : Began like a rocket and held on to win in 22.96.

Race 3 Number 8 NEW ECHO : Copped a bump at a vital stage (first turn) and should have won.

“Marciana relishes box 8 for Pete Brown”

Noted wide tracker Marciana made full use of box 8 in tonight’s Free Entry At TABtouch Park Grade 6 over 302m. Trained out of Banjup by Pete Brown the son of Lovhinvar Marlow was able to notch his fifth career victory at his 46th start. On Boxing Day he saluted over the 302m distance from box 5 but he had failed to flatter at 3 subsequent efforts when unplaced. This evening the field jumped evenly and Marciana simply swept around them to win handsomely by a length over the Harvey based Full Soot and another length away third was Lebron Slam who is trained out of Camillo. Marciana is owned by Bill McNally and has been a consistent earner in WA, now having the 5 wins to his credit along with another 13 minor placings.

Race 4 Number 6 IRON FOCUS : Mustered like the wind to score in 22.98 and looks set to rocket through the grades.

Race 7 Number 6 ROCKABILLY VEGAS : Flooded home to lose narrowly but made up many lengths.
