20180118 – Mandurah Thursday

“Saffron Monelli delivers for David Hobby”

Leading WA greyhound trainer David Hobby took out tonight’s Mandurah Mail Novice over 405m with ‘late bloomer’ Saffron Monelli. The regally bred daughter of Fabregas is out of great producer Jackie Bale but tonight’s victory took her tally to just two despite having started on sixteen occasions. After finding trouble at her previous six runs at Mandurah she had managed only one minor placing and that night she was beaten eight lengths. She began fairly tonight but in the middle stages there was interference at the front of the field and she swept around the outside to take the lead. From that point she was able to scoot clear and win by three lengths in 23.15. The Ben Abercrombie prepared Aysum Rose ran on stylishly to finish second ahead of Ping Pong Summer who is trained by Craig Shore. Saffron Monelli’s litter sisters Poppy Monelli and Zinnia Monelli ‘quinellaed’ the next event too, both clocking fast times over 490m. David Hobby continues to dominate the WA greyhound racing scene, having prepared a mammoth 313 winners last calendar year. Pictured : David Hobby
