“Pepper Fire remains unbeaten over 405m”

Eight heats of the Mandurah Mail sponsored Birthday Cup were contested tonight over the premier short-course distance of 405m. In Heat Two seasoned sprinter Pepper Fire returned to the 405m journey where she had won 5 of her previous 5 starts. After drifting in the market from $2.10 to $2.50 she reigned supreme from box seven, scoring by two lengths in 22.79. Highly promising young pup Let’s Get Rocked rattled home for second ahead of Alfa Tonic who finished third. Pepper Fire relished her wide box, after a fast getaway she was able to zoom into the first corner and cross her rivals. Raced by Chris Halse and Linda Britton, the daughter of Spiral Nikita took her career statistics to an amazing 84 starts for 25 wins and 38 minor placings. In November she won in Melbourne and tonight’s victory took her career earnings up over $250,000. Stewards conducted the box draw for the final and here are how the marbles dropped :

Race 1 Number 8 NO ADDED SUGAR : Improved sharply to run a solid second in approximately 23.11 for Kylie McLennan.

Race 3 Number 6 LET’S GET ROCKED : Rose sharply in class but put in a mighty performance to be beaten 1.75 lengths by Pepper Fire. He turns two years old next month.
