20171214 – Mandurah Thursday

“Velocity Star runs the hands off the clock”

Barragup based greyhound Velocity Star put in a career best performance in tonight’s $29 Thursday Buffet Novice Stake over 302m. The black daughter of Fabregas has always shown plenty of talent but has often found a way to finish second or third despite looking the winner at some stage of the race. From her first 22 career outings she had managed just 3 victories but a whopping 11 minor placings. All of those runs were at the Mandurah circuit over the distances of 405m or 490m. This evening she dropped to the 302m journey for the first time and with still a hint of sunlight around for Race One, was able to zoom to the front and win by six lengths. Freeway Shaker battled on gamely to run second for North Yunderup trainer Tania Thomas and Bella Bomb railed into third for Southern River mentor Jen Thompson. The most impressive component of Velocity Star’s performance was her sizzling time of 16.93, a run just three lengths outside of the current track record held by Quedos. Velocity Star is owned by Judy Hubbard and is prepared by Ian Bunny who has done a terrific job with the 28kg bitch.

HOUNDS TO FOLLOW :

Race 4 Number 1 PARTY GAMES : Was having her first run since August and flashed home to grab third over the unsuitable distance of 302m. Prefer over longer.

Race 5 Number 1 SUNSET JESSIE : Missed the start horribly before saving every inch of ground along the fence to prevail in a photo finish.
