20170602 – Mandurah Friday

“Rocky Gee Rocks lights up TABtouch Park Mandurah”

Rocky Gee Rocks began his career in a blaze of glory, winning two of his first four starts at Mandurah (405m) and Cannington (520m) respectively. The large 38kg black dog’s form tapered off though, finishing out of the placings at his three most recent outings. Clean box manners and early acceleration aren’t assets that generally apply to huge greyhounds and another tardy getaway occuurred tonight. The son of Barcia Bale found himself sixth after fifty metres but building pace near the rail. Race favourite Miss America couldn’t cross from box eight and Ripa Rama had surged to an early lead. As they left the back straight Ripa Rama had dashed clear but like Draino through a pipe, Rocky Gee Rocks had charged through to second position to give pursuit. As the pair straightened Rocky Gee Rocks gained the upper hand over his smaller rival and bolted away to win by three lengths in 22.69. Miss America finished powerfully to run second and relegated Ripa Rama to third. Rocky Gee Rocks gives the impression he has a bright future over longer distances. He is owned by the David Shortte managed Powered By Nine Syndicate and is trained out of Casuarina by Steve Withers.

Race 5 Number 5 SMOOTH : Was a beaten favourite but still did a great job after being squeezed out early.

Race 6 Number 8 DANDALUP DOLL : Produced an eye-catching second in fast time and is ready to win.
