20161007 – Mandurah Friday


Mandurah Cup Box Draw

The Mandurah Cup was first run 1979 on the old circuit over 530m. Big name winners include Sandi’s Me Mum (1991), Barelen Saint (1996), Super Saturn (1997), Reggemite (1999), Flying Emu (2010), and Crashing Packs (2015). Four heats were staged tonight with first and second progressing to next Friday’s rich final. Heat One was taken out brilliantly by Pepper Fire for Nambeelup trainer Chris Halse. After winning the South Australian Oaks last month she was able to lead throughout  in 27.56. She defeated Monaro Monelli by a whopping 8 lengths and will be very hard to beat next week. Heat Two provided a great finish with Who’s Got Blue lifting strongly to beat Dawkins Bale by a head in 27.83. The third heat belonged to the Harrisdale prepared Fun Boss who led all the way in a brilliant 27.48. Trained by Cheryl Isaac, the son of Kinloch Brae chalked up his 29th win and reached $200,000 in career earnings. Ramifications rattled home late to finish second and also qualify for the final. The final heat produced a surprise result with 15/1 pop Who’s Driving winning in bold fashion. He maintained a wide course from box 8 and reeled in the pace-making Jamaica The Fun in 27.56. It was Chris Halse’s third heat winner from just four heats.
