20160926 – Northam Monday

Northam Anniversary Cup

The Northam Anniversary Cup was first staged back in 1997 when Rip Van Rosco scored for Kathy Bromley in a time of 30.18 over the famous 509m trip. Bromley went back to back in 1998 when After Lunch saluted and notable winners since include Worthy Allegro (2002), Dolly McArdle (2003), Elle Gee (2007), Spot On Pedro (2013) and last year About To Rock. This afternoon About To Rock was shooting to become the first greyhound to ever win multiple Northam Cups and he drew nicely in box two. However after a poor getaway About To Rock found himself fourth at the first turn and with traffic problems. The second elect on tote Hello I’m Leo began like a rocket and was able to cross his rivals from box seven. Brock On settled a clear second and loomed as the obvious threat. Turning for home Hello I’m Leo strayed from the fence and whilst Brock On had enough room to win he wasn’t able to, with Hello I’m Leo lasting to win by a neck in 29.78. He has now won 18 of 35 career starts and is raced by Southern River based couple Ben and Amamnda MacLean.

HOUNDS TO FOLLOW :

Race 2 Number 5 MILLA’S PRIDE : Checked heels at a crucial stage and was desperately unlucky.

Race 4 Number 5 WHAT LIES : Ran a cracker of a race first up, winning by nine lengths for Kody Charles.
