20160527 Mandurah Friday

“Senator Monelli delivers at 647m debut”

Highly promising potential stayer Senator Monelli (pictured) could not have been more impressive tonight, winning Heat Two of the Mandurah Middle Distance Challenge in a near record 36.44. Owned by Mike and Michelle Quinsee, the son of Barcia Bale drew box one and had enough early muster to hold the lead at the first turn. It was his first run over 647m but he had been charging home over shorter trips and was always going to be hard to catch. At the half way mark he had stormed five lengths clear of nearest rival West On Dossy but with a mighty run home time of 11.49 he ended up winning by 10.50 lengths. His time of 36.44 was less than a length outside of the great Miata’s track record (36.40) recorded back in December of 2011. He is trained by David Hobby and will be extremely hard to beat in next Friday’s final. The other two heat winners were Dubliner (in 36.98) and Jed Monelli (37.22).
