20160423 Cannington Saturday

IMA WAGTAIL (Oaks Raod- Aella) gave trainer John Iwanyk and owner Norm Burke their greatest moment in greyhound racing when he took out the final of the Gr 1 Sky Racing Perth Cup. The $150,000 first prize was won by the the black dog who couldn’t hold the lead and had to come from behind to defeat the leading pair Tiggerlong Await and Shared Equity by a nose and a neck in 30.29. Ima Wagtail has only had the 4 starts for Iwanyk and he has won all 4 in what is a remarkable transformation for a greyhound who was Grade 5 going into the series. Iwanyk finished second with Decathalon and Back Tonight in consecutive cups in 2007 ands 2008.

SEEKING JUSTICE (Kinloch Brae- Shanlyn Supreme) was able to hold up from box 1 in the final of the Gr 1 Sky Racing Galaxy and from there the Victorian chaser was able to dictate the race. With Keith Harding taking over the training duties while he was in WA, the brindle dog set a new track record of 42.35 in defeating Dyna Nihilist by 5 lengths with Ryno’s Raider an extremely unlucky chaser back in third place. Harding trained the first winner of the Galaxy in Afro Freway back in 1982 and again won with Elektra in 2008. His daughter Jodie trained Gemarly Park to win the Galaxy final in 1997.

COBRA CLUTCH (Turanza Bale- Mini Emily) shot out of box 2 and led throughout scoring by 4 lengths in a PB 29.98 in the second of the consolations of the Sky Racing Perth Cup. The WA bred, owned and trained chaser from the Jamie Marsh kennel has now won 5 of his past 6 starts. He had little luck in his heat the previous week finishing a close up third behind Katsuro Sahara.

MARLEY BALE (Turanza Bale- Dyna Gala) worked across from box 8 and found the lead entering the back straight for trainer Andrea Dailly. The black dog then raced clear of his rivals to win the Gr 3 Consolation of the Sky Racing Perth Cup by 4 lengths in 30.07 from Gorham Bale for local trainer Enzo Crudeli. Race favourite Moreira was slowly away and found it hard to make ground on the leaders.
