Big fellow South impresses over 405m

Powerhouse short-courser South chalked up his thirteenth career victory in tonight’s Sign Strategy Mixed 2/3 over 405m. The 37.5kg son of Elite State is known as a risky box dog, which means he can often find himself near last in the early stages of his races. However tonight he was one of the first to exit the boxes and from that point was always going to be hard to catch. South enjoyed an uncontested lead at the first turn before winning in a slick 22.62. The Phil Worthington prepared Kantega ran a ‘bottler’, losing by just one length ahead of Derecho  who also finished strongly. South has now started 27 times for 13 wins and 9 minor placings. He is raced by D. Ashby, B. Barker and his Barragup based trainer Ricky Valenti.

RACE 1 NUMBER 4 BELFAST TOMMY : Flew around in 22.63 and made it 4 wins in the month of February.

RACE 3 NUMBER 5 REBELLIOUS SPEED : Showed pace at the start and at the end when a strong winner in 22.81.
