20150226 Mandurah Thursday

You can’t beat experience, a lesson learnt in the A1 Salvage and Hardware Grade 5 over 302m at Mandurah tonight. Our Tiger Lil, who is closing in on 90 race starts, returned to form with a tough win in the second event on the card. The Phillip Worthington-trained bitch flew the boxes in the green rug on her back to chalk up win number 11 from start 85 in a time of 17.63 seconds.

Our Tiger Lil was the fastest from the boxes and collided with Mantra Blue 50m from the start which took the Wayne Rose-trained chaser out of winning contention. Surfin’ Shambi and Furious Styles benefitted from the tangle to claim outside runs and finish second and third respectively. Surfin’ Shambi was a nose away and will be a chaser to follow in his next start.

Worthington was close to a race-to-race double to open the meeting, but his chaser Just Be Good was narrowly beaten in the first event by Sky Reactor. Sky Reactor, who had two good runs leading into the race, ran like a chaser collecting just his third winner’s cheque.

Emerging chaser Pam’s Boy led all the way in the Fast Fun & Affordable Grade 5 over the 490m. More wins are on the way for the Chris Halse-trained black dog after winning for the second time in five career starts. Verna’s Pride finished second after finding trouble early and third placed Astounding Speed was impressive following a slow start and making ground on the front two over the concluding stages.

Speaking of impressive, the former Tasmanian Silver Pierre was very good, winning race number two from two starts at the Mandurah track. Bigger and better things look likely for the Linda Smithson-trained chaser who won the TABtouch Grade 4/5 over the 490m from Zoo Ringo in second and Sir Brodey in third.
