20150206 Mandurah Friday

Sitar Monelli wins Dawesville Cup

The Dawesville Cup is a series restricted to Provincial Grade 4 chasers over the distance of 490m at Mandurah. The race was first run in 1999 when Ruling Reason scored for Christine Robartson. Linda Britton won the next four in a row and last year Paul Stuart won with Astronomic in a brilliant time of 27.33. A great field was assembled tonight and after a fast jump from box one Nice Lil’ Earner set the pace. Miss Skyline, Jess’ Fantasy and Extrovert all showed zip and settled in prominent positions whilst Sitar Monelli dropped back to last. At the half way mark Sitar Monelli worked to the outside and began a searching run, giving Nice Lil’ earner a twelve length head start. As the field turned for home Nice Lil’ Earner shrugged off the challengers but Sitar Monelli unleashed an amazing surge that saw him claim victory by half a length. Nice Lil’ Earner ran second for the Puppy Club and another half length away third was Extrovert. Sitar Monelli is trained by leading Nambeelup trainer David Hobby and is owned by Mike and Michele Quinsee. He has now started 26 times for 9 wins and 13 minor placings.
