20220708 – Mandurah Friday

“Soda Saville wins Mandurah Middle Distance Challenge”

The Mandurah Middle Distance Challenge was first run back in 2011 when Barney Stinson won for the late Keith Harding. Other notable winners include Pedro’s Finest (2013), Serena Fly High (2017), Rockstar Patriot (2019) and Flake Monelli (2020). The Rob Westworth trained Soda Saville showed terrific mid-race speed to win his heat in 37.04 and put in a repeat effort tonight to take out the final. Major Sacrifice flew out to lead before being out-paced in the middle stages by Soda Saville. The favourite saluted by four lengths over Major Sacrifice and another two lengths away third was Tsar Bell. Soda Saville is raced by the Robyn Richards managed Team Richards Syndicate and has now won 10 of 32 career starts over distances ranging from 460m to 647m. The 405m Winter Sprint final was also decided tonight and speedster Rage On Zatara took out the $8000 to the winner feature for Barragup trainer Ian Bunny. After breaking the 302m track record last month he added tonight’s feature to his achievements for owner Ricky Walton.

Race 2 Number 1 SOZIN’S AZZURRI : Showed more stamina when a 405m winner in a fast 22.59.

Race 3 Number 4 REFINED : Roared out to lead and win in a slippery 22.48.

“Simply Whatever wins from box 8 for Trudi Mitchem”

Speedy short-courser Simply Whatever relished his wide draw tonight when he zoomed around his rivals to lead all the way over 302m. The son of Big Daddy Cool broke through for his first Mandurah victory at his 24th attempt. He is trained out of North Baandee, a town roughly 30km from Kellerberin in the Central Wheatbelt District. Despite the distance the 30kg white and black dog provided a happy drive home for his trainer Trudi Mitchem. The triumph took his career statistics to 50 starts for 4 wins, 9 seconds and 7 thirds. He is a half brother to quality chasers Secret Witness, Squires Loft and Thurston’s Magic.

Race 2 Number 1 LADY LASS : Missed the start but after that zoomed home to be only beaten by one length.

Race 4 Number 4 VOULEZ MONELLI : Roared out to lead and beat some handy types in 22.94.

20220705 – Mandurah Tuesday

“My My My hangs on for Jackie Wilson”

Ex-Queensland based speedster My My My scored at $12 this evening from box two for Nambeelup based trainer Jackie Wilson. The 28kg black bitch found the fence and saw off challenges from Pennywise and the fast finishing railer Junk Yard Zeus. The margins were a head by half a head and close up in fourth position was Vanda Vaughn who ruined his chances by wobbling wide at the top of the straight. My My My has now won 4 of 20 career starts and tonight’s time of 23.09 suggests there will be plenty more.

“Soda Saville digs deep to win over 647m”

Ex-Victorian stayer Soda Saville was brave in winning over 647m tonight, holding off Major Sacrifice to score by a neck. The son of Barcia Bale pushed hard at the first turn between runners to find the lead and break away from his rivals. Major Sacrifice reeled in Soda Saville and the pair were on even terms with fifty metres to go before Soda Saville prevailed narrowly. Five lengths away third was rank outsider West On Mia for Damien Crudeli. It was the second of two Mandurah Middle Distance Challenge heats with the top four from each advancing to next Friday’s Final. Soda Saville has drawn ideally for Rob Westworth :

“Royal Li wins on debut for Michael Rylands”

Aston Dee Bee sired debutante Royal Li cashed in on box one tonight when she drove up on the inside to lead all the way in a handy 17.38. The 29kg bitch dashed away from her rivals late to win by a whopping six lengths over the short journey of 302m. She’s A Menace finished second for Michael Hine and another length away third was the James Jeffries prepared Big Flash Unit. Royal Li won her qually in 17.41 and improved half a length on that time tonight to be a first start winner. She is a sister to handy chasers Bold Linda, Ishmy Ruby, Saint Candy and Saint Sandy.

Race 3 Number 8 SMITHY KEEPING : Will surely win a race soon, tonight was last away and made plenty of ground to finish second.

Race 5 Number 1 FORWARD SCOUT : Came from last to score in 22.92 and should go on with the job against Grade 5 company.
