Runner By Runner

Box 1: West On Sidney (Chris Halse)

West On Sidney dropped back to 520 to contest the heats last week following a commanding performance in the Distance Potential over 601m. In typical fashion, he flashed late in a run home of 11.17 to grab second and qualify. The box draw was kind to Sidney but he’s a short price for a dog who will be close to last early, and he can take his time in navigating a field. That was evident last week when he was sweating on a rails run coming off the back straight last week. With boxes 2,3,4,5 all heading to the rail, he is a massive risk at a relatively short quote.

Box 2: Fleetwood Kazak (Damien Crudeli)

Fleetwood Kazak has been a terrific campaigner for Damien Crudeli all year and has punched well above his weight on several occasions. He was terrific last week, crossing from box 8 and leading from start to finish in a time of 29.77. Both the time and first section were personal bests for him, but he will need to bring that again this week to be a chance. He typically produces a mid 5.50’s first split and with considerable pace drawn outside him, this could be a bridge too far.

Box 3: Spencer (Rod Noden)

Spencer has been some acquisition for Rod Noden. After a very flat WA debut, Spencer has improved week-by-week and suddenly finds himself in a Group 2 final. He was a game run from box 8 last week where he worked his way to the rail around the first bend and held off All About Stone for second place to qualify. He has no room for error in this final, boxed in between Fleetwood Kazak and Aston Nero, both showing speed. He will need considerable luck to feature here, but Spencer has made a habit of proving me wrong every Saturday.

Box 4: Aston Nero (Kody Charles)

Aston Nero’s form has been building through the Northam Cup and Chase series, and he was terrific from box 1 last week. Importantly, he ran the trip well with an 11.42 run home and will only be fitter for the final this week. Whilst he has plenty of early speed, he can be risky at box rise and he needs to lead to be any chance to winning here. If he does, it’s game on. I’m not convinced he can hold out Our Ozzie Salute and for this reason I’m against him. Despite that, he is certainly one of the chances.

Box 5: Miss Envy (Krystal Shinners)

The Queen of WA just keeps winning, however she has had a terrible run of box draws in feature finals throughout 2025 and it’s happened again here. She has been superb in her last three starts and is the clear class runner of this field. Whilst only bad luck beats her, there’s every chance she finds trouble from this horror draw. Boxes 2,4,6,8 will all be charging forward and given she’s unlikely to lead, where does that leave her at the first bend? She’s a terrific race dog and if she can find a run she will take it, however she’s too short for me at $2.90 to entertain a play.

Box 6: Our Ozzie Salute (Jamie Marsh)

Our Ozzie Salute holds the cards in this final. He was a sensational run behind Miss Envy last week, but importantly here, he has the early speed to lead and break some hearts in front. He has a strong record from middle and wide draws, and with a clean beginning, he can go low 5.40’s to the first mark (he went 5.39 last week). If he does that and leads, that essentially ends the chances of all but West On Sidney and Miss Envy, and with those two likely in traffic, Our Ozzie Salute can run away with the All Stars.

Box 7: Rare Speed (Kody Charles)

Rare Speed capitalised on a perfect draw last week to qualify for the final, however the task from box 7 in this stella field is a different proposition all together. She was essentially untouched last week to run a time of 29.97 and that won’t be enough here even with a clear passage. She’s a greyhound who has flown under the radar in 2025 and it’s a terrific effort for her to make both the Perth Cup and All Star finals this year. I’ll wait for another day to be on board.

Box 8: Junk Yard Clyde (James Jefferies)

Junk Yard Clyde was able to show his turn of foot last week and was a nice winner from box 7 in a time of 29.82. He’s another who is risky at box rise but with clear room, it’s a difficult task to hold him out early. Box 8 is far from kind to greyhounds over 520 at Cannington (8.4% strike rate) and the early speed in this race makes Clyde’s task all the more difficult. He can potentially cross if Our Ozzie Salute is battling Aston Nero heading to the first bend, however I just see him getting posted in this. He’s racing well but will need to be perfect to have a chance in this.

The Verdict: #6 Our Ozzie Salute

I’ve marked Our Ozzie Salute favourite in my market and the $4.60 with TABTouch is enough for me to play. I see him as the most likely leader and that’s crucial in what is a wonderful edition of the All Stars Sprint. Importantly, he has a clear map advantage over Miss Envy who beat him fair and square last week, and the majority of this field will need the lead to win. Best of luck if you’re having a play and to all connections in the 2025 All Stars Sprint!
