“Pound Keeping wins WA Oaks for NSW raider Todd Barnes”

The WA Oaks is a time honoured feature that was first run back in 1976 when Venus Ice was the victor. Notable winners since include Capobianca (1991), Cherry Kongwak (1996), Billy’s Echo (1997), Dance Portrait (2003), Miss Slick (2008), Free Candy (2014), Cropduster (2018) and Rippin’ Grace (2023). Sunset Clarice was sent out an odds-on favourite in tonight’s $91,000 final from box one after winning her last six on the trot. The David Hobby speedster began quickly but was challenged strongly at the first turn by Pound Keeping who eventually worked to an outright lead as the field entered the back straight. Pound Keeping continued on her merry way, scoring by three lengths in 29.96. Sunset Clarice held down second and two lengths astern in third place was the Shayne Williams prepared Pam Keeping. Pound Keeping is raced by Charmaine Roberts and she has now started 9 times for 7 wins and 2 thirds.

HOUNDS TO FOLLOW :

Race 1 Number 5 CANYA CAVIAR : On a wet track beat a quality field by six lengths and clocked 29.72. A serious young greyhound in the care of one of the best trainers.

Race 5 Number 4 KING NANGAR : Didn’t enjoy much luck in running but still managed to dead-heat for second.
