“Hurry Up Eric wins Puppy Classic for Linda Britton”
The Puppy Classic series has always been run at Cannington (until this year) and was first staged on the old Cannington track back in 1996. Notable winners over the years are Billy’s Echo (1997), Lord Monelli (2005), Back Tonight (2007), Benno (2009), West On Augie (2018) and Crumble Monelli (2023). Last Friday the Linda Britton prepared Hurry Up Eric qualified fastest and jumped an equal favourite with Just A Piastri in tonight’s final. When the boxes opened Just A Piastri sizzled across from box six and found an uncontested lead but Hurry Up Eric quickly swept around runners to work into second position. Turning for home the two favourites had it between them and were stride for stride over the concluding stages. They hit the line locked together with Hurry Up Eric prevailing in a photo finish. Sunset Clarice flashed up late to finish third ahead of Just A Foreman. Hurry Up Eric was sired by Vanderworp, has won 6 of 7 and looks set for a very bright career.
