“Action Shot wins The Shorts”

The Shorts is a series conducted over 400m at Mandurah that is restricted to greyhounds born in WA. First run in 1979, True Charity was the inaugural winner over 410m on the old Mandurah track. Notable winners of the event are Downfield (1985), Crown Echo (1991), Kanoala (1994), Car Park Keith (1996), Scit Zoo (2005), Vitalogy (2021) and Sunset Capone (2025). A very strong field was assembled for tonight’s final with the Gary Nelson trained Surf The Sun qualifying fastest in a swift 22.26. As the boxes opened Surf The Sun (box 4) and Cabin Crew (box 3) collided heavily and both lost their momentum and effectively their winning chance. Clifton Jasper (box 6) and Action Shot (box 7) began swiftly and landed in front at the first turn before Action Shot mustered clear. The son of Vanderworp booted away at the top of the straight and scored by two lengths in a fast 22.36. Clifton Jasper who recently won the $60,000 Birthday Cup was the runner up and a length away third was Aussie Gem.
