“Linguine Monelli sizzles home to win first heat of the Mandurah Cup”
David Hobby trained the winner of the 2016 Mandurah Cup final with top tier sprinter Monaro Monelli who clocked a flying 27.31 over the old 490m distance. Tonight he had the first greyhound to advance to this year’s final, winning the first heat with Linguine Monelli. The son of Superior Panama completely bombed the start and settled eighth entering the back straight. From that point he ran the perfect race, weaving between runners to be fourth at the top of the home straight. He surged down the outside to pip Spencer on the post and win by the smallest possible margin. The winning time of 27.53 was elite given his poor jump and he will be very hard to hold out in the final no matter where he draws. The other heat winners were Spooky Hook (27.19), Junk Yard Clyde (27.28) and Boracay Storm (27.46). The box draw for next Friday’s 488m Mandurah Cup Final :
- BORACAY STORM
- ICONIC JET
- SPOOKY HOOK
- SPENCER
- MAILATA
- JUNK YARD CLYDE
- ASTON NERO
- LINGUINE MONELLI
- MACARONI MONELLI
- LITTLE WILDFIRE
HOUNDS TO FOLLOW :
Race 3 Number 8 JUST A PIRATE : Began better and battled on strongly for a gallant second.
Race 5 Number 7 ALL ABOUT STONE : Hit the line hard for fourth and looks close to a win.
