Elite speedster Night Lighter was crunched into a $1.06 fixed odds favourite to win tonight’s opening heat of The Dash series over 300m. The John Righetti prepared chaser had won his two previous starts over the 300m journey in sparkling times and jumped off the page as a likely winner tonight.

The son of Aussie Infrared led comfortably and won in the same fashion, recording another brisk time of 16.89. The Graham Ellis trained Sweetie Pie relished box two and ran second with Rowdy Hoodlum a length away in third position.

Five heats were contested with all winners and the fastest three seconds all advancing to next Thursday’s Final. The other heat winners were Charos Legend (17.17), Sunset Nightjar (16.79), Doreen Keeping (17.15) and Sunset Ali (16.87). The box draw and field sheet will be released on Monday by the RWWA grading department.
