“Aussie Gem wins Express Stake Final for Jamie Marsh”

Faultless beginner Aussie Gem used her exceptional box manners and early pace to set up victory in tonight’s GreyhoundsWA Express Stake Final. The series was first run way back in 1981 over 410m on the old Mandurah circuit. Notable winners of the race include Wolfe Run (1989), Looks Like Mum (1996), Green Fairy (2008), Exonerated (2017) and Robotnik (2022). Aussie Gem set the speed in her heat last Friday only to be run down by the highly talented Aston Bollinger. Tonight she flew out as usual and mustered two lengths clear leaving the back straight. Next Thing Uno, Artisan Artist and Aston Bollinger gave pursuit but Aussie Gem maintained a buffer and on the line was drawing clear of her rivals. She won in a new PB of 22.28 and scored by two lengths over Next Thing Uno and two lengths away third was veteran Artisan Artist. Aussie Gem’s mother Fab’s Gem won a Mandurah Cup and both chasers were raced by owner Anthony Barranaca. Aussie Gem took her lifetime record to an amazing 49 starts for 11 wins, 28 minor placings and more than $55,000 in earnings.
