“Getaway Sticks breaks a losing sequence of 82 for Barry McPherson”

Not many greyhounds reach 100 starts and only record one solitary victory but that was the case tonight for the Alex Dowd owned Getaway Sticks. The son of Black Bear Lee came into tonight with a record of 1 win and 33 minor placings from his 100 starts. However given the low strength of the field he started a $2.80 fixed odds favourite. As the boxes lifted Getaway Sticks appeared first and ran to an uncontested lead. The Geoff Reid trained Concord Gundi gave pursuit but couldn’t get past Getaway Sticks who scored by just over a length. He ran a fair 23.08 in the slightly wet conditions and snapped an astonishing long losing sequence of 82.
