“David Hobby wins the Winter Sprint again”

A star-studded lineup was assembled to contest tonight’s GreyhoundsWA Winter Sprint Final over 400m. Leading Nambeelup based trainer David Hobby qualified six of the eight finalists and saddled up race favourite Sunset Hornet from box one. Sunset Hornet was defending her crown after winning last year’s edition in dynamic fashion. The daughter of Sunset Spitfire recorded a blistering 22.60 (in wet conditions) from box eight in her heat and started a clear favourite tonight. However at box rise Sunset Hornet dwelt a fraction and Sunset Ali burst across the face of the field to lead from box five. Surf The Sun and Sunset Nightjar gave pursuit but Sunset Ali drew clear in the home straight to score by 2.25 lengths in 22.31. Surf The Sun ran a solid second and a length away third was Sunset Nightjar. The victory was Hobby’s fourth in the event after winning previously in 2018, 2020 and 2024.
