“Canya Ice Man wins the Peel Plate for Kavanagh”
The Peel Plate is a once a year Tuesday night series contested over 400m at Mandurah. The race was first run in 2011 when Good Odds Jacky won for Eric Campana. Notable winners since include Sissoko (2014), Pinny Mac (2017), Chevy’s Entry (2019) and Kingshott (2024). A quality field was assembled with Sunset Oyster (box 1) and Junk Yard Clyde (box 2) jumping favourites from their favourable box draws. However reserve West On Miley flew out of box seven before being headed off at half way by Canya Ice Man. The son of Tommy Shelby dashed clear of his opponents before recording a slashing 22.11 and winning by four lengths. Junk Yard Clyde powered home for second and two lengths away third was Manjarin. Canya Ice Man is owned by Jessica Windiate and is prepared out of Nambeelup by Sean ‘Strike Rate’ Kavanagh.
