THE GR 1 SKY RACING GALAXY began with an upset win in the opening heat by the Corey White trained FLAWS AND SINS (My Bro Fabio-Ella Enchanted). The black bitch led from box 4 and held off the short priced favourite Ethanol Water by a half length in 41.92. FULL OF REGRETS, a litter sister to Flaws And Sins, made her way through to the final of the Galaxy defeating Heather’s Pick by a length in 42.51. After settling midfield, she raced past the two leaders going off the back straight for new trainer Sean Kavanagh. MIGHT HAVE BEEN (Flying Ricciardo-Poco Dorado) stepped up to the 715 metres for NSW trainer Melinda Finn and led for the majority of the race before scoring by 3 lengths over Miss Ronnie Mac in 41.91. The NSW chaser had recorded quick times in his home state including a slick time in the Dapto Middle Distance Final. GROOVEBIRD (Need My Moneynow-Saint West) charged home to claim fellow Victorian Black Silencer right on the line in the final heat of the Galaxy. The Jeff Britton trained bitch was the stronger greyhound on the night scoring by a head in 41.91.
The box draw for the Gr 1 Sky Racing Galaxy will be conducted Monday evening at TABtouch Park Mandurah.
THE OPENING heat of the Gr 1 Sky Racing Perth Cup saw the short priced favourite and reigning WA Greyhound of the year winner MISS ENVY (Aston Dee Bee-Miss America) rail through on the first corner to lead into the back straight. The Krystal Shinners trained star had not raced since January 2nd and is likely to strip fitter in next weeks final. MEPUNGA TULLY (Fernando Bale-Mepunga Isla) led throughout in the second heat defeating Fleetwood Kazak by 8 lengths in 29.48. The Jeff Britton trained Australian Cup winner was in another class and deserves his place as favourite for next weeks final. MORTON (Tommy Shelby-Chloe Louise) scored a come from behind victory in the third heat. The Victorian. Hamer was sent across to Steve Withers a few weeks back to give him plenty of time to settle for the series. He defeated Transcendent by 1 1/2 lengths in 29.83 and race into his 9th Gr1 final. MAXIMUM KUNA (Dyna Villa-Gran Amor) drove up on the inside of Fancy That Fred entering the back straight before holding off Aston Costello by a half length and last years winner Uncle Tommy in the 4th heat of the Perth Cup. The Michael Johnston trained chaser was well supported after the scratching of Barbecue Man earlier in the day. BORACAY SUMMER (Feral Franky-Miami Fernando) led throughout in the 5th heat and defeated the star Victorian Smooth Plane by 2 lengths in 29.42. The Steve Withers trained chaser is undefeated in 3 starts over the 520 metres and showed her strength which came from her recent 601 metre winning form. RARE SPEED (Bernardo-On The Runway) led from box 8 and then shut the door on the Queensland chaser Barefoot Zulu going off the back straight. The Kody Charles trained bitch held on to win the 6th heat by a half length in 29.68. VINCENT BALE (Christo Bale-Helga Bale) won the 7th heat of the Cup holding off Rippin’ Moses to win by a head in 29.81. The Victorian chaser trained by Samantha Grenfell was crossed early before finding the top off the back straight. The brindle dog recently finished third in the Gr 1 Australian Cup Final behind Mepunga Tully. DEADLY AVENGER (Tommy Shelby-Avenger Miss) was the final qualifier defeating Both Bowers Ace by 4 1/2 lengths in a slick 29.52. Trained by Steve Withers, the Victorian chaser jumped to the front and the race was all over leading throughout at his first WA start in the final heat of the Perth Cup.
