“Our Ozzie Opal wins first heat of The Shorts”
The Shorts is a 400m series restricted to WA bred greyhounds and two hot heats were assembled tonight with the top four from each advancing to next Friday’s Final. Some of the best sprinters have won this series over the years including Downfield (1985), Crown Echo (1991), Kanoala (1994), Colloquialism (2000), Uno Reltub (2011), Buddy Be Cool (2012), Astrophysic (2015) and Crumble Monelli (2022). Heat One was taken out by Our Ozzie Opal who exploded out of box three and led throughout in a slick 22.39. The Jamie Marsh prepared dragster has now won 10 of 23 career starts all of which have been over the 400m distance. Sunset Capone battled on well for second and was beaten by three lengths, with What A Ripper another three lengths away in third. Heat Two was won by Fancy That Fred who hunted up on the rail to lead from box one and win in 22.41. Sunset Nightjar was the runner and railing home strongly for third was Our Benson. T
