“Barbeque Man delivers Birthday Cup glory”

Barbeque Man has always been a fast greyhound but silverware had always eluded the son of My Redeemer until tonight. He has been responsible for some electric PBs over sprint distances including a run of 29.68 over 520m at Cannington and a time of 27.01 over 488m at Mandurah. Tonight he gained a run from box two as a reserve after flashing home for second in his heat behind Uncle Tommy. His only chance to win was avoiding the inevitable speed battle, finding the rail, having a clear passage and flying home inside his rivals. That’s exactly what happened. Curious Georgia as expected flew to the front and when Sunset Nightjar moved up the track at the first turn inconveniencing others, Barbeque Man railed through to third position. He rallied strongly to level up to Curious Georgia and the pair hit the line locked together with Barbeque Man prevailing narrowly. Close up in third was Sunset Nightjar ahead of Aston Costello. Barbeque Man has now won 18 of 40 for trainer Paul Stuart and took his career earnings over $200,000.
