“Bo Cruz wins first heat of the Great Western for Steve Withers”

The Great Western is a 400m series for WA bred chasers and was first contested in 2006 when Just Got Paid won for John Iwanyk. Notable winners since include Bomber Command (2010), Stangafied (2015), Fire Blaze (2017), Mermaid Monelli (2020) and West On Boomer (2024). Three heats were staged tonight and the three favourites in Heat One all made the podium. Bo Cruz flew out of box one and set up a lead before winning in a smart 22.40. Strong finisher Torino overcame box eight to run a bold second and after being squeezed out early Sunset Ali charged home for third. Bo Cruz is raced by the This’ll Test You Syndicate and has now won 9 of 21 career starts. The other heat winners were Apache Havoc (in 22.40) and Ned (in 22.31). The box draw for next Friday :
