Handy chaser Molotov Boy put in a terrific performance tonight at his 652m debut at Mandurah. The Michael Johnston prepared chaser won a Darwin Cup heat in August and followed with a close up fifth in the final. He struck early interference at his two runs back in WA and was consequently unplaced. Tonight he jumped fourth in betting and after a clean jump was second in the middle stages and tracking the favourite Hurricane Taylor. Turning for home he took over and on the line was pulling away from his rivals to win by one and a half lengths. Hurricane Taylor held second ahead of the fast finishing Blessed Doll in third position. Molotov Boy is owned by Tim Mullany and has now started 36 times for 7 wins and 16 minor placings.
