“Eric Campana wins Mandurah Cup with Molfetta Cruise”

The Mandurah Cup was first run in back in 1979 when Hunt’s Reject saluted over 530m. Champion sprinter Sandi’s Me Mum won in 1991 and notable winners since include Mickey Rourke (1994), Reggemite (1999), Vulture Street (2008), Flying Emu (2010), Astrozone (2017) and Vice Grip (2022). An elite field was assembled for tonight’s final over the 488m distance and the Eric Campana trained and Nick Minutillo owned Molfetta Cruise jumped favourite from box seven. Noted speedster Crumble Monelli zoomed out of box two to lead while Molfetta Cruise settled in second position at the first turn. Turning for home Molfetta Cruise overtook Crumble Monelli and dashed to the front but Bezzecchi was storming home. Molfetta Cruise found enough, gripping on to win by half a length over Bezzecchi who looks set for a very bright future. Crumble Monelli held on to third spot with Barbecue Man close up in fourth. Molfetta Cruise has now won 12 of 28 at the Mandurah venue and 19 of 54 overall.
