“Skye Monelli powers home for 721m FFA victory”

Top-flight stayer Skye Monelli looked ideally suited in tonight’s Gordon Chivers City Free For All over 721m. With only five competitors she was always going to be able to drop out early and pick her way through the field at her own leisure. She railed into third position with a lap to go and was in front by the time they left the back straight the second time. The Paul Kaltsis prepared grinder then sailed clear to win by six lengths in a new PB of 42.44. The time was just 0.14 outside of the long-standing track record of 42.30 posted by the John Carmody trained Deadly Boy in 2016. Penny Magic finished second and another length away third was Timon Lane. The win took Skye Monelli’s earnings upwards of $87,000.
