“Patience pays off for Barry McPherson in the opening event”

Experienced greyhound trainer Barry McPherson put the polish on tonight’s first winner Chippin’ Away. The daughter of Black Bear Lee came into the race winless after 25 starts but she had been a runner up on 9 occasions. Despite that record she was well supported into a clear $1.90 fixed odds favourite and after a fast getaway her backers were on good terms. However she was headed off mid race by Zipping Haley ($3.30 second elect) who at one point was more than half a length in front. Turning for home though Chippin’ Away used her inside advantage to regain the lead and on the line she held a half head advantage to break her maiden status. Her time of 16.53 was only fair but a win is a win and her career earnings leapt to more than $9,000 (thanks to all of her seconds). She is a full sister to handy types Thai Lee, Getaway Sticks and Spin King.

Race 4 Number 2 TOMMY’S GHOST : Hustled to the front from box two before leading throughout on debut in a promising 30.05.
