“Soda Saville wins Mandurah Middle Distance Challenge”

The Mandurah Middle Distance Challenge was first run back in 2011 when Barney Stinson won for the late Keith Harding. Other notable winners include Pedro’s Finest (2013), Serena Fly High (2017), Rockstar Patriot (2019) and Flake Monelli (2020). The Rob Westworth trained Soda Saville showed terrific mid-race speed to win his heat in 37.04 and put in a repeat effort tonight to take out the final. Major Sacrifice flew out to lead before being out-paced in the middle stages by Soda Saville. The favourite saluted by four lengths over Major Sacrifice and another two lengths away third was Tsar Bell. Soda Saville is raced by the Robyn Richards managed Team Richards Syndicate and has now won 10 of 32 career starts over distances ranging from 460m to 647m. The 405m Winter Sprint final was also decided tonight and speedster Rage On Zatara took out the $8000 to the winner feature for Barragup trainer Ian Bunny. After breaking the 302m track record last month he added tonight’s feature to his achievements for owner Ricky Walton.
