20201205 – Cannington Saturday – Anniversary Cup

SUNSET SPITFIRE (Mepunga Blazer- Sunset Jessie) set a new race record in the final of the Anniversary Cup with an all the way victory defeating kennel mate Thrift Monelli by 6 1/2 lengths in 29.58. The black dog took a few strides again to get in full swing, however once he did the race was all over in a couple of strides. The win gave David Hobby his first victory in the feature. The black dog is undefeated in 12 career starts and in his short career has already recorded the third quickest time (29.39) at Cannington behind Campini (29.26) and Catch the Thief (29.32) this year.

STOUT MONELLI (Barcia Bale- Corona Monelli) was able to hold up from box 1 and lead throughout as a heavily backed favourite in his Maiden victory. The David Hobby trained dog was beaten odds on favourite the week before behind Cascade Monelli, however was far too good for his rivals scoring by 8 lengths over Got The Swagger in a slick 29.70.

JUST WINS BOSS (Fernando Bale- Uno Arjo) recorded her second win over the 600 metres leading throughout from box 2. The Nat Crook trained bitch held off Redcap Monelli to win by a half length in 34.75. The light brindle bitch has now won 7 times from 19 career starts.

WHAT’S UP MARTY (Demon Bale- Tearsabout Tears) recorded his first win at Cannington at his 7th attempt with a dominant 6 length victory over kennel mate Waratah Miss in a PB 29.93. The Damien Crudeli trained dog messed up the start, however was able to rail through and lead on the first corner.
