20190315 – Mandurah Friday

“Lightning Quick track for Dawesville Cup Heats”

The Dawesville Cup series is restricted to Provincial 4 and 5 graded sprinters over the 490m distance at Mandurah. Notable winners include Cobram Storm (2000), Magnavard (2006), Passionate Black (2007), In Brief (2011), Sitar Monelli (2015) and Cosmic Luck (2017). Five heats were contested tonight on a fast track and Jamie Marsh won the first with Double Talkin’ who made it 3 from 3 at the Mandurah track. The son of Fabregas came from behind to post a slick win in 27.65 over Westdale Bandit. Feelin’ Alright was heavily backed in the second heat and didn’t let backers down, leading throughout in 27.57 for Chris Halse. Heat Three produced a stunning display from the white flash Dandalup Casper who weaved magic in the early stages before finding the lead and winning by four lengths. He posted a sizzling 27.45, a time just six lengths outside of the track record. Speedster Zoom Tux led throughout in the fourth, posting 27.68, a terrific time given he was challenged in the home straight by Spirit Monelli. Nambeelup trainer Tania Thomas achieved a training double in the final heat when Spitting Venom led all the way in a swift 27.58, winning by five lengths over Roxy’s Double. No box draw took place due to an ongoing steward’s enquiry. The $9,025 Dawesville Cup final will be held next Friday with Dandalup Casper, the fastest qualifier likely to start a warm favourite.
