20180721 – Cannington Saturday

GARBRANDT (KC And All- Saving Bundles) recorded a smart come from behind win over the 520 metres. The Jamie Marsh trained dog was slowly away and then found the fence ensuring he didn’t have to go around a runner and he scored by a half length over Trifive in 30.47.

QUICK JAGGER (Dyna Nalin- Saving Bundles) led throughout on a rain effected track over the 715 metres and showed he is nearing his best with a 3 length win over Scott Keeping in 42.16. The Chris Halse trained star has won at his past 3 starts over all 3 distances here at Cannington. The star WA chaser will now be aimed at the Crocmedia Nationals to be held at Sandown in Melbourne.

VANDERWORP (Kelsos Fusileer- High Recall) returned to Perth from his Bendigo Cup win and put up a handy break going a long the back straight after crossing to the lead from box 8. The Chris Halse trained star then held off the fast finishing burst of Bundles Galore to win by a half length in 30.31.

20180720 – Cannington Friday

“Awesome lineup assembled for Winter Sprint Final”

The Winter Sprint was first run at Mandurah over 410m in 2000 when Serpentine trainer Tony Simpson prepared Firefly Jack to victory. Other memorable winners were Black Watch (2005), Top Fuel (2009), Two Pot Screamer (2011), Buddy Be Cool (2012) and Mique (2016). Four heats were contested tonight over 380m at Cannington with the first being run in drizzling rain. All eight chasers began swiftly and at the first turn King Tony from box eight swept around the congestion to win in 22.11. Will Keeping who is back from an injury enforced spell finished second and also progressed to the final. Heat Two produced a sizzling performance from Doc Hudson who surged to the lead mid race before scoring in a slick 21.71. Last year’s winner Desert Rampage battled on well for second and will defend his title in the final. Heat Three came down to Marydoll versus Issue with the two pairing off at the first turn. Issue raced outside Marydoll throughout and gained the upper hand in the home straight winning by a length in 21.97. The last heat was won easily by Midnight Rama who relished box one, leading throughout in a brilliant 21.82. Race 2 Number 4 VINAKA FIJI : Ran a great race at huge odds and was beaten just over a length.

Race 3 Number 1 EIGER MONELLI : Appreciated box one from the corner start and won easily in a fast 21.81.

20180718 Cannington Wednesday

WEST ON VIOLET (Barcia Bale- Zelemar Fever) was able to run to the lead going off the back straight and racing away for an impressive debut win in 30.21. The well bred black bitch won by 11 1/4 lengths over Rusty Wren and was the first leg of an early double for trainer Chris Halse. Halse also won the third heat of the Winter Maiden Classic with litter sister West On Lily winning by 6 1/4 lengths in 30.10. The black bitch was returning from injury sustained at her second career start in the middle of June.

PYROTECHNICS (Ollie Bale- Whispering Ling) recorded his Maiden win in the second heat of the Winter Maiden Classic for trainer Enzo Crudeli. The big black dog had been placed at 3 of 5 starts before scoring by a length over Hello I’m Bugsy in 30.44.

20180717 Cannington Tuesday

“Promising youngster Cosmic Ox wins again in an awesome time”

Highly promising youngster Cosmic Ox recorded a sizzling 21.64 tonight when he overcame box eight to win the Get The TABtouch Novice over 380m. Despite weighing in at 36.3kg the son of Fabregas turns two in October and is just a baby. He ran first and second at his first two starts and tonight could not have been more impressive. Sent out at $2.20 from the unfavourable draw of box eight, he launched himself to the lead before posting a slick 21.64 and winning by nine lengths. The reserve Devine Tilly ran second ahead of Tiger Keeping who did well to run third after checking off the heels of Cosmic Ox at the first turn. Cosmic Ox is raced by Anthony Barranca and is trained out of Canning Vale by Jamie Marsh, he’s going to love Mandurah with a longer run to the first corner.


Race 2 Number 6 METAL BUSTER : Flew the boxes before scoring in sub 22 seconds for the in form Enzo Crudeli.

Race 6 Number 3 FABS GEM : Missed the kick before flying home for a narrow second in good time. She’s going to be good.

20180714 – Cannington Saturday

“Destroyer wins staying Free For All for Chris Halse”

Ex-Victorian based stayer Destroyer put in a solid performance this evening when he took out the 715m Free For All. Odds-on favourite Scott Keeping began only fairly from box two and was headed off at the first turn by Destroyer from box six. The son of Spring Gun soared clear with a lap to go and established a five length lead over kennel-mate Ramifications who was the closest pursuer. Outsider Chezzy Allen raced in third position ahead of Scott Keeping who began to build some momentum. Turning for home it was clear that Destroyer was going to lead all the way and while Scott Keeping rallied late he was beaten four lengths. Ramifications was another two lengths away third in advance of Chezzy Allen (fourth) and Moment To Jive (fifth). Destroyer was having his second start in WA after finding early trouble and running sixth over 520m. The Neil Young owned chaser has now started 46 times for 9 wins, 23 minor placings and over $64,000 in earnings.


Race 1 Number 1 FUNKY FACTS : Rocketed late to snatch third and won’t take long to win one.

Race 2 Number 5 LORENZO BLUE : Steamed home strongly again at long odds after flying home at his previous start.
