“Podge puts in blinder for Max Julien”

Veteran chaser Podge has always had a big motor and tonight ticked all the boxes when an impressive winner over 490m in 27.63. The son of Cape Hawke was born in January 2014 and boasts fast best times over multiple sprint distances. Tonight he jumped well and settled second behind warm favourite Lucky Shooter who had won his last four in a row. Podge challenged at the top of the straight and shortly after raced away and while noted fast finisher Supreme Ollie worked home strongly Podge held a one length advantage on the line. It was Podge’s ninth victory at his 63rd career outing for Stoneville couple Max and Pam Julien. It would be a satisfying triumph for the Juliens who have seen Podge run some incredibly unlucky minor placings since his first start back in September 2015. Tonight’s $1,900 cheque took his career earnings over $23,000.

Race 1 Number 4 ZAMAZAN : Former Victorian who broke his maiden status in a smart 27.80 at his thirteenth start.

Race 3 Number 2 ACES OVER EIGHTS : Was going to win by a long way before being turned sideways at the top of the straight.
