“Howzat Ernie turns it on at his ripe old age of five and a half”
Veteran sprinter Howzat Ernie turned on a clinic tonight in Race 3, the Mandurah Mail Mixed 4/5 over 302m. The son of Spring Gun hadn’t raced since January and from box two began cleanly before thrashing his rivals over the short distance by four lengths. At five years and four months old he recorded a new PB of 17.08, a time that would win most Free For Alls over the 302m journey. The Port Kennedy based Rockabye Demi ran second narrowly ahead of the Canning Vale based Outa Line. Howzat Ernie is raced by Jen Thompson out of Southern River and has now started 122 times for 11 wins, 47 minor placings and over $36,000 in earnings.
