“Sunset Licorice continues to improve for Jeffries”
Slick youngster Sunset Licorice produced another dazzling display tonight, winning her third successive race in the Mandurah Mail Grade 5. After victories at Northam (297m) and Cannington (275m) the daughter of Where’s Pedro was making her Mandurah 302m debut from box eight. Race favourite Time Healer (box 5) flew to an early lead ahead of Sunset Licorice who mustered to second in front of noted strong finisher Buster Keeping (box 1). Turning for home Sunset Licorice wrestled the lead away from Time Healer and Buster Keeping checked off heels, losing all momentum and any chance of challenging. Sunset Licorice powered on for a convincing two length win in 17.29, Time Healer finished second a length in front of Buster Keeping. Sunset Licorice is prepared by Southern River based trainer James Jeffries (pictured)and has now won 5 of 13 career starts. In January she will turn two years of age and with five wins already to her credit she looks set to accumulate plenty of wins and stake money.
